Top PG visitor this weekend?

  • I ran across some information that a talented PG recruit for 2014 is visiting this weekend. Any 247 information on this? Larry Austin?

  • Ulis is tearing it up in Illinois, supposedly. He's a stud of a PG, but hes very short. I've watched tape on him and really like how he is able to drive to the lane with ease. He's an athletic PG who can hit a shot if he needs to. He elevates well for a 5'7 guard and has tremendous ball handling skills. I would not be surprised at all if Iowa ended up landing him later on, especially with his ability to create shots for others. He's currently a bit under the radar, but a lot of scouts in Illinois like him and he'll get some more attention soon.

    Tyler is one of the smartest guards for the class 2014. He is also one of the smallest and toughest his ability to see the floor and knock down jumpers moved him up to MeanStreets 17U to compete with the big boys as a sophomore. Watch for this guy he has a big future...

  • Thanks for those clips. Ulis looks like the more prototypical PG and plays with a lot of energy. Austin has some smoothness to him and seems like a savvy player.

    Different styles, but I'd take either one. I suspect there will be big competition for both.

    He won't need a screen, he'll need a trampoline! No wonder he is under the radar! biggrin

    Actually, Darren Sproles (birthplace: Waterloo, IA) at 5'6" has been a favorite of mine since his college days at Kansas State and then beyond that with the NO Saints.

    Any follow-up on whether or not a point guard visited this weekend? If they did they saw a he-- of a game and a heck of a crowd!!! Love that crowd!!!! iowa hawkeyes

    golden......great Iowa trivia fact. I didn't know that Darren Sproles was born in Waterloo.

    I know he attended Olathe North? a Kansas City, KS suburb. Have some friends who saw him play in H.S.
    They said it was like a wind-up robot that just made 90 yard runs about 6-7 times per game in HS.

    What a player.........and that is another thing I like more about FB than BB. The short guy can still
    be HUGE in the NFL. Check out Ray Rice, if you don't believe it.....

    I'm curious myself, but I was thinking the same thing - he picked the right weekend, that's for sure.

    I'm not sure if 247 is aware of the visit, so may have to peruse TOS to get the info., which I hate to do since this is the better site.shrug

  • FYI, 247 does have Ulis as unofficially visiting Iowa this weekend. He only has 1 offer currently. I think Fran can slow play this one a bit. Hopefully we can get in on some better rated kids. To say that Ulis is a Top PG is a bit of an exaggeration. Good player though.

    Ulis is the 105th ranked recruit on Rivals with offers to Iowa, Oregon State, DePaul, and some other mid majors. Fran is definitely not slow playing Ulis at all.

    I didn't know that. His only offer on 247 is Illinois Chicago. My bad bro. I hope Fran also brings in a 6'5-6'7 slasher that can get to the rim and create his own shot. Jok is in that height range but more of a pure jump shooter right now. I think he could be though his Junior and senior seasons.

    The 2014 class will need to replace Marble, McCabe, Basabe. So I'd say a guard and a couple forwards will be taken.

  • Personally, I'd rather have Larry Austin, but it will be much tougher to snag him with all the offers he has.
