  • I just saw this thread and now that I know I can post here as well as on the off topic thread, I will add my 2 cents when I have something worthwhile to share.

Let me introduce myself. I was born and raised a Hawkeye in Central Illinois. Family burial plot is in front of Lincoln Tomb in the Springfield, Oak Lawn Cemetery. I am a 1972 graduate of the U o I with a BBA, full majors in Accounting, Finance and Insurance (Risk Management). I was part of the Football squad at the start of 1966. I knew quote a few of the players in both Football and Basketball from that time. I had classes with Wolfe, Calabria, Jensen, and Vidnovic, if those names mean anything to you. My Father graduated in 1941 from the Commerce School with an Accounting degree. He was a member of the Wrestling squad as a Freshman. I don't know how long he participated. He knew several of the Iron Men personally back in the day. He was a CPA and worked in Public accounting from 1945 until 1961, then Computer Accounting Service for FS Services until he retired in 1977. When I graduated from Iowa, I and my new wife moved to North Central Wisconsin. She moved on in 1984, but I am still at the same old address. I have worked in Public Accounting most of my life. I have been a Computer wizard since 1978. I Was the Business Education department for a rural Wisconsin High School from 1998 until 2002. About 14 of my former students now work in the accounting field, including 3 CPAs. I have held public office and currently am semi-retired. Health issues put me on disability in 2004. I am more inconvenienced, than disabled. Currently I am learning to live with Kidney dialysis. I will be the Kiwanis Div #19 Lt. Governor starting October 1, 2012.

I am one more of the wave of displaced Hawk Central members. I have been active on that site, in successive iterations, since about 2001. As an avid computer user and dedicated Hawkeye, I should be here regularly, even when I am not posting. I have a Football ticket for the 2012 season and a parking spot on Golfview. I will bring both Leinenkugel Beer and Grate Wisconsin Cheese to the tailgates. I usually make it back to one or two men's or ladies Basketball games.

    Any questions, just ask.

    GO HAWKS!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I just joined up a couple minutes ago. I am also on Rivals and was doing the free thing on Scout up until recently. I was on scout under several different names over the years and I guess I was somewhere up into the Junior or Senior level when my run came to an end. Am looking for good conversation about Hawkeye Sports. I'm a bit of an old f*** and have essentially been a Hawk fan since Snook was QB. Thanks for having me.

  • Well there are quite a few of the Grognards on here. I date back to Ray Nagle's first year at Iowa. I started following the Hawks when Snook was the great white hope. Back then you could not be certain to read the score, much less a recap in a paper outside of Iowa. My how times have changed. Welcome aboard mate.

    GO HAWKS!!!!!

  • I just wanted to thank you for running such an outstanding board. I am having so much fun on the OTBand find the recruiting, football team, basketball team et al to be very informative. Is there ever any plan to split the sujects into categories Football and football recuiting, etc? Just wondering. I love VOTH and am so happy to be here.

Thanks for your support! We'll probably maintain the current format for the time being, but would be open to making changes down the road if need be.

It only takes a few seconds to sign up and there's no need to enter credit cards or any other ultra-personal information.

We've come a long way in a short amount of time, but we're still getting there, and we want you to be a part of it.

Gold medals aren't really made of gold. They're made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts.
