Looking forward to seeing the new facilities when they're finished!

It severed it's purpose. Too bad they took it down. It would have been sweet for the golf team to hit balls in it, soccer practice in the winter time, lacrosse or rubgy winter games... Even student intermural flag football.

But for our football team it did suck.

  • I'm trying to figure out why they took it down already when the other one won't be ready for awhile. What if there is some unforeseen delay in the construction and we're left without an indoor facility when needed. Take them to the rec center or fieldhouse for practice?

I heard the Fieldhouse is due to be taken down in the next year or so for an another add-on to the hospital.

Any idea where they plan on placing the wrestling and gymnastic teams? Or the labs that are upstairs? There's lab space around, but I'm not sure if there is enough together right now in the other buildings.

It's just what I heard from a teacher, I don't know why it's not more widely known, assuming it's true that is. I thought the wrestling team had a separate area somewhere in the CHA underground don't they?

Yes the wrestling team does practice in CHA and just had renovations with the Bball teams.

They may now, but I left my job in the Int Phys Dept upstairs in July and the wrestling team still practiced at the FH at that time.

As an aside, should I be embarassed that everytime I walked past one of the Brands I was physically afraid of a guy about a foot shorter and way lighter than I am?

  • Wrestling was only at the Field House due to the Carver renovations displacing them. They have brand new digs at Carver in the same location as before just with more room.

The Field House rumors have been around for years and that facility is certainly on borrowed time. The construction of the Westside Campus Recreation and Wellness Center or whatever it is called was the unofficial death knell. The hospital will consume that land at some point in the near future though I don't think a date has ever been set in stone.

The lack of indoor facilities for the football team at this point is trivial since the only time they practiced indoors during the spring and fall is during inclement weather. On nice days they're outside so they'd really only need to be indoors a couple days tops unless some freak weather event occurred. By the fall they indoor facility should be complete - there's a reason that was one of the first things they went to work on. The mild winter has them ahead of schedule at this point.

In regards to the bubble, yes, it served its purpose. It kept Hayden Fry from bolting for USC (or wherever else he may have threatened) in the mid-80s. It was functional, that's about the best thing I can say about it. The lighting inside was awful which made it difficult for the baseball and softball teams to utilize.
