Speaking of uniforms

  • Just saw a tweet saying the b-ball team will have new ones next year.

Personally I like the throwbacks they wore last year

  • Supposedly they will be Nike elite basketball uniforms. I'm actually excited for that, though I don't like Nike's design on the backs of the uniforms, but oh well. I'll make that trade for something new and cool.

  • Yeah, Fran confirmed the news about the new uniform next year on his radio show tonight. They are also having a France and England summer trip, then the Great Alaska Shootout in the fall. Will history repeat itself? the last time that happened, IA made an Elite 8 run...

Also, the BTN channel has inside the selection process show to highlight March Madness selection committee and they even have a mock version of their own predictions. I recorded it to view it later without commercials.

Those trips will come at the perfect time. With the vast majority of the roster returning, Iowa was already going to have very good chemistry next season. With the additional time the players and coaches will get to spend together during that summer trip and to/from Alaska, that should only help this team bond even further.

The only knock I have on the Alaska trip is that the competition seems to be lacking. Maybe these teams will all be better next year, I haven't checked. At least the team will be able to focus and hopefully this will set a winning tone for the guys as next season unfolds. A tournament win to start the year could do wonders for the confidence of the team.

Indiana State and Harvard are generally quality opponents, but I agree that it's not as impressive of a field as other preseason tournaments will have. So it may not be a major boost to Iowa's tournament resume at the end of the year, but like you said, winning this tournament could really propel this squad moving forward.

  • These torunaments played in hotal lobbies and half-empty high school gyms seem lame to me. Why not just schedule some homa-and-aways with some quality opponents?

I guess the GAS hasn't meet it early expectations from the late 70's through the 90's when Kentucky, North Carolina, NC State, Duke,Kansas , Iowa, Purdue, Michigan State participated and took the championship trophy home (Roy marble was tourney mvp in 1986). But I agree with your earlier assessment this is a good time for a per-season tourney for them.
