Riley Reiff

  • Haven't seen it mentioned here yet, but there was a report yesterday that the Lions are strongly considering moving Reiff inside to guard. I don't believe the team has publicly commented on it, so it may or may not be true.

  • Not happy with him at tackle or just want him to be some where starting?

Gold medals aren't really made of gold. They're made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts.

It could be for any number of reasons, by all accounts his PT at Tackle was not that bad and I am pretty sure at least that he was injured last year, hence him not starting/playing in as many games. Even if it is a move based on performance or lack-thereof on Reiff's part, it does reopen more opportunities to see the field as a guy with flexibility who can always move back outside to Tackles if need be.

The Lions used him all over the place last year, and I am not talking just on the OL. He was used as a lead blocker and TE, just wherever they could. They just aren't ready to put Jeff Backus out to pasture.

  • I'd refuse the move if I were him. He is a tackle. He was a dominating run blocker last year for the Lions. The offense was better with him on the field. The Lions are stupid not have him on the starting o-line. At the least RT. If the Lions move him inside, he'll have a Robert Gallery like career, which was ok, but not fair to the amount of talent the player had.

Not sure, as it was just a brief snippet I saw scroll by on the bottom of the screen on NFL Network. I would assume it's because they feel confident with their current starting tackles, and want to get him on the field somehow, but I'm not completely sure.

I think it sort of depends on how the Lions bring it up to him. If they give him the impression that this is a temporary move for a season (or less), then it probably makes sense for him to go along with it and get more playing time.

Robert Gallery underperformed as a tackle in the NFL and the only reason he prolonged his career was by moving to guard. I don't disagree with your point about Reiff, but I think to use Gallery as a reference, is a bad example.

I disagree. He was a solid tackle. He was moved positions about 6 times and had several different OL coaches in his first 5 or 6 years in Oakland. Pretty tough to get accustomed to how you need to play in the NFL when you are moving so much. It was unfair to Robert. Poor guy getting thrown into that monstrosity of a franchise. Gallery got a bad rap because he underperformed being a Top 5 pick. But the raiders never gave him a chance.

If Reiff is told it is for a season or less, then he should do it. But if they want him to move to guard, I would refuse.

Getting bull rushed by a stud DE in the NFL has nothing to do with having too many coaches. It has everything to do with foot speed and strength. Gallery was a stud tackle in college and a solid guard in the NFL, but he simply never took his skills to the next level. Even Bryan Bulaga is a better tackle in the NFL than Gallery and he never had Gallery's frame.

Gallery was a SOLID guard in the NFL and there is nothing to look down on for that whatsoever. Hey, he never was a Mandarich!

    Ok. Agree to disagree.
