  • Anyone catch OSU at IL, OSU looked bad and not impressive at all. IL looked much better; however, I did not see them lose at Pur. Purdue looked tough with D as usual but thin in the line up. MSU wore them down and capitalize at the last mins to make it looked like a blow out. I hope IA play their A game tomorrow at Mich, we'll see...

  • Watched most of Ill-OSU, at one point it was 50-27, and some of Purdue-MSU.

Brutal start to conference schedule, and it's set up nicely for a strong finish with the exception at Indiana.

  • Big game today RPI-wise

  • Go figure: after getting blown out at Michigan, we jumped from No. 90 to No. 76.

    Go Hawks!

    NYCHawkeye

  • Just think what will happen if we can knock off sparty in this week... banana

  • Drat, ISU missed a late FT which would've wrapped it up at Kansas (No. 2 RPI) and then the Jayhawks bank a 3-pointer with a second to go to tie it. Then of course the OT session was a mismatch.

Anyway, Iowa stands at No. 75 today (and MSU No. 22).

That game really would have helped. Iowa could have gotten a win over a ranked team without doing anything today, but Coach FH didn't elect to foul up 3 with like 8 seconds left, pretty much basketball common sense if you ask me.

  • Yep, should've fouled them bringing the ball down court -- a no-brainer there.

Now, we need to control our own destiny from this point on and start winning and not worry about everyone else.

    Let's Go Hawks!

    NYCHawkeye

  • That bank 3 Kansas had to send it into OT was almost as lucky as that Northwestern State 3 at the buzzer (sorry for the bad memory). It's too bad too because Iowa State really outplayed them the whole game. It seems like Kansas always finds a way to win at Phog Allen.

  • Dropped one notch last night to No. 76 (MSU now No. 24).

Do we ever need a win tonight.

    NYCHawkeye

  • That road win last night bumped us up to No. 76 from No. 92.

    NYCHawkeye

  • UNI and ISU both won over the weekend....(along with VT, finally!)....need them to keep winning, it will help.

Unfortunately, both Michigan and Wichita State lost....that's probably what kept us from cracking 75.... biggrin

  • Iowa jumped up to No. 64 as of all games played Sat, Jan. 19.

    NYCHawkeye

  • Question: will a Northwestern upset of Indiana today help us or hurt us in our RPI ...or will it be a wash?

Yesterday was a very good day for Hawkeye hoops. Tough game @OSU coming up and even a loss should keep Iowa's RPI close to the 60s.

IA got some notice from ESPN #5 comment:

    5. Iowa shakes up the Big Ten.

Thanks, Iowa. I thought I’d finally figured out the Big Ten until you beat Wisconsin 70-66 just four days after the Badgers upset the Hoosiers in Bloomington. It’s a cliché statement by now, but the Big Ten continues to prove that it’s the best conference in America. And this is why. A team such as Wisconsin can go on the road and beat one of the most talented squads in America (Indiana) and, less than a week later, suffer a loss at Iowa. Michigan beat the Hawkeyes by nearly 30 points. A few weeks later, Iowa takes Wisconsin down and re-enters the at-large conversation. The Hawkeyes committed just six turnovers in a game that featured a 20-point Iowa lead in the first half. Wisconsin shot poorly early but stormed back after halftime. It just wasn’t enough. Coaches around the league have talked about this for a few weeks now: The champion of this conference could have four or five losses. Maybe more. No squad has truly separated itself from the Big Ten pack. And it’s difficult to see how any team will when you have eight squads that could qualify for NCAA tournament berths. What a league.

  • Nice find Lao...good to see ESPN finally waking up to what we already knew

BTW, Iowa is now up to 61 in the RPI....something must have already happened today that bumped us up a few spots

I saw that, I was really hoping there'd be more breakdown of Iowa, but it was more of a mix between a bragging right towards the Big Ten as well as a congrats to Iowa for being a team to watch out for if you want to win the conference. Iowa is definitely in a better position today than they have been in far too long.

Yesterday was good for Iowa. Pretty much everything that Iowa needed to happen to move up yesterday, did. ISU won a road game (at TCU, but road wins are better in RPI), WSU beat Creighton, who is #12 right now. Iowa beat Wisconsin after they just won AT #2 Indiana. Basically a great day for building that RPI. Hopefully Iowa can snag one of the two upcoming road games with OSU and Purdue, that would really help the RPI as well as keeping up with the conference.

Yep, all of that happened yesterday...we finished at 64 per NYCHawkeye at the end of the day.

I was curious what happened prior to 1:00 CST today that bumped us to #61 ..?

  • Thanks RealChad...we feel we've turned the corner here in Fran's thrid year, but still a work in progress.

I'm sure Nebraska is on the same path, but a year or two behind. Your new facility is going to do wonders for the program, that place is amazing.
