Question for Iowa Fans

  • I'm just curious about this,

    In Nebraska we've been playing the Black Friday game for as long as I've been around, and maybe us Nebraska fans like it because its tradition, one of the only games that day, or whatever the case but i was just curious why does it sound more and more like Iowa is against it?

    I might be reading wrong into what Barda said

    And do you guys like the game day after Thanksgiving?

  • Im not a big fan of the friday game I would be more inclined to go to the game if it is on Sat. But it does provide a national spotlight Iowa does not usually get.

  • Iowa doesn't like it because Kirk Ferentz doesn't like it.

    I don't mind it, and I was really excited about it when first announced, but I don't think it's as special as it used to be. Case in point, ISU played on the same day this year.

  • I like the Black Friday game because it gives both teams national spot light more so than it would on a Saturday, it is only one of a few games on and it is a lazy day for most Americans so they will be watching football. And if we ever manage to beat the cornholers, it can only help with recruiting. i do not want it change,

  • I can tell you that the majority of Iowa fans want this game on Friday, including myself. It would be ridiculous to change it, but like another poster said, Ferentz is huge on routine. Ferentz is basically our AD's boss, not the other way around.

    Just googled Batman the other day.....i have a degree in creative writing and wrote a few comics but as you can probably tell I'm a Batman fan

    Trust me it's...stranger than you think. The movie is stupid, but just because of the scene I'm talking about, I watched another hour of the movie (f-er is over 2 hours long...did not finish).

    Edit: a little warning about the movie so you don't get in trouble with the wife/gf, it's about life in a whore house in 19th century France, so there is nudity.

    As others have said, I think it's a rare opportunity for Iowa to have some national exposure, so I think it's a net positive. The main drawbacks are that it forces the coaches/players to adjust their schedules and, when the game is at home, it's probably pretty difficult to get recruits who aren't in-state to visit. But, as I said, I think the national exposure outweighs those negatives. It would have been interesting to see what Kinnick would have been like if both teams had been playing for something.

    I don't like it and not many people I know do. There are alot of people and professions that work on the Friday after Thanksgiving.

    Furthermore, it seems as if the only reason UN wants a Friday game is to try to salvage the only Big 8/12 tradition they have remaining.

    The only rivalry they have is the one that was disignated to them by the Big Ten, and I can't even tell you who that is. UN despirately wants a rivalry and they think a Friday after Thanksgiving game against Iowa will be that rivalry.

    As far as I'm concerned Iowa already has too many rivalries and we don't play enough of them. I want Wiscosin back on the schedule EVERY year. I want to play Illanoy more than once a decade in addition to Minnesota and Iowa State.

    Let's just add two more teams, put the original 10 in one league and the 10 newbies in another.

  • Nebraska started playing on Black Friday around 1977 or 1978. Before that, it was always Thanksgiving Day against Oklahoma, as far back as I can remember.

    Maybe some Iowa fans are lukewarm about it because we have no tradition for any game that weekend. If Iowa can get to where they can compete year-in and year-out with Nebraska, then it could become a great tradition.

    UI Hosptials are open that day and a lot of people work on campus, so parking is a problem around Kinnick that day.

    I work too but I will take the national exposure for the team over my needs to be able to watch all of it.

  • I want it on Friday and hope it stays on Friday. It was weird enough not having A&M vs Texas on thanksgiving.....

    Anyways we play on Saturday it's just another game that most people probably will not watch, fact. If its played on Friday it's going to be watched nationally due to dudes not shopping on Black Friday.
