Predictions for Iowa's 2012-13 basketball season

We got the easy part right...LOL...bring on the B1G!

    (any word on Basabe's ankle?)

OhioHawk............Fran was quoted as saying they 'just held him out' as a precaution, 2nd half on Saturday.
He said they just want him to be ready for BigTen game.

  • I'm gonna go with 2-2 to start B1G play. Beat Indiana/MSU and Northwestern. Lose to Indiana/MSU and Michigan.

    10-3 9-9 I think they win a BTT game. 20-13 NIT.

    Pretty good.

Hawks have some erratic games against some good B1G competition, but still able to come back with surprise the next game. Fans begin tailgating in large numbers hours before games, with shirts off and shorts and sandals on in sub-zero weather. Sellout string begins.

    Non-conference @ 11-2 Conference @ 9-9

Squeak out Big Dance shot with one win in the conference championship round.

Excellent predicting. 100% accurate except the part of squeaking in.

I think Todd has it nailed with his 2nd post right after starting the thread, 11-2; 9-9; High seat in NIT finish in fashion in NIT.

    Nice job TW!!!!

  • this was a pretty tight cluster of predictions. lots of 9-9's and "not quites." all in all, though, i'd rather we were surprised than more or less right.

I'll go ahead and get things started.

    1) 11-2

    2) 9-9

    3) I think Iowa will enter the conference tourney needing to make it to the finals in order to qualify for the Big Dance, and fall short. However, Iowa earns one of the top seeds in the NIT, makes it to New York City, and builds a ton of momentum heading into the 2013-14 season.

    Some people came pretty close.

Thanks! In such a tough conference, I felt Iowa was good enough to beat anyone, but also might have nights where they could lose to anyone.

So far, so good. The one part left is making a deep run in the NIT. We'll have to wait and see what happens on that end.

  • Next year might be more interesting with a lot of the Big Ten teams looking different.

  • While it sucks missing the dance, I can say after not watching bball for YEARS Fran has me back interested again, team has a lot of potential and is headed back to some relevance again. They are fun to watch and should be for years, so for this fan I consider this year a huge success no matter what happens, it is enjoyable for me to be excited for Iowa hoops again, I forgot how much I could enjoy/ get emotional over it. Ya know 2 sports just aren't good enough for my high bp biggrin

Great post. Fran has really turned the program around, and finally established some excitement for Iowa basketball among the fan base once again. That's not easy to do, and I imagine the excitement will only increase heading into next season.

That's a great point. There may be a lot of turnover on the rosters at the top of the conference. In terms of roster continuity, Iowa should have an advantage over most of - if not all of - the rest of the conference.

That was impressive, but now I want stats from you:
Who will be Iowa's leading scorer tonight and how many points?
Who will be most valuable off the bench?
What will the final score be?

Going out on a limb, I've got a feeling Iowa will beat Indiana State 68-52. Devyn Marble will lead the way with...I'll say 24 points, and McCabe will make a couple big three's and be the leading scorer off the bench with 8 points.
