Predict the Rest of Iowa's Class

  • This should be an interesting exercise considering that it is still relatively early in the process. For baseline help, here are the numbers at each position so far:
    QB: 1
    RB: 0
    WR: 1
    TE: 0
    OL: 1
    DE: 1
    DT: 2
    LB: 1
    DB: 2

    My predictions:
    Rodney Coe--DE
    Dan Monteroso--WR
    Jeremiah Gaines--TE
    Solomon Warfield--DB
    Zaire Williams--RB
Berkley Edwards--RB (I think he will be a Hawkeye because Michigan does not offer.)
    Sean Welsh--OL
    Hayden Biegel--OL
    Trevon Young--ATH
    Derrick Mitchell, Jr.--WR
3 other players that don't yet hold Iowa offers.

Overall, this would give Iowa a solid, though perhaps unspectacular, class. It would provide a lot of depth and very good development options, but I'm not sure anyone would really shine in '13.

  • WR- Dan Montesero, Veii
    RB- Berkley Edwards, Rachid Ibrahim
    TE- Jon Wiesdgdhdhki, Jeremiah Gaines
OL- 2 unknowns as of now
DL- Rueben Dunbar, Coe or unknown
    LB- Treyvon Young
    DB- Warfield, Unknown kid

I think we may have to dig around this year and wait around for some coaches to get canned.....7-5 will do that

  • lol...I couldn't have predicted the class we already have...

Berkley Edwards will be interesting to watch. scUM is near full and unless they start unloading recruits, like last year, to sign new ones, I think you are correct in that he won't be seeing an offer. SpartySt has only 6 commits...but 2 are RB's, so that too makes them unlikely to offer in the near future. Not sure when he plans to announce. If hes smart, he'll wait till after his senior year.

  • Didn't I hear that Warfield backed off of us for some unknown reason?

  • This is shaping up to be an average recruiting class. Unless Iowa somehow makes some noise this season, I don't think they'll be in on any top rated prospects

  • Well the recruiting landscape has shifted significantly since this post started up 8 days ago? With 15 commits in, where do we go now? Who are their top targets? What are the greatest needs?

Iowa has backed off Raridon. Wisnieski remains a possibility, though.

  • Let's do this again. I think Iowa takes 4 more guys to put the class at 20. From where I sit, it'll be 2 RBs, 1 OL, and 1 LB. I think at least one of their commitments will be a player who has yet to receive an offer.

    RB--Berkley Edwards
    RB--Rachid Ibrahim
OL--Zach Borens (Marion, Iowa; No current offers)
LB--Reggie Spearman (Chicago, Illinois; MAC offers, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Houston, New Mexico) would be a great get, but I don't think he'll get an offer before he commits somewhere else next month. I think a guy that could land on the radar of BCS schools late in the process is Central Michigan commit Jeff Perry (Morris, IL). He has great film and fits the mold of guys that Iowa has offered late and have had great college careers.

Spearman would be a good fit due to his flexibility of playing LB and DE. He spent quite a bit of time at the numerous camps he went to working at DE and he was described as "unblockable" due to his superior speed. I read an article where Rucker was in his ear all week at the football World Championship about becoming a hawkeye. You are probably right though, he will probably commit soon, and that's too bad because I think Iowa could have gotten him had they offered. I heard Illinois is his top choice, and he could commit soon.

  • I know it was mentioned that we are only taking 3 more now that we have Wisnieski, but I don't see how that don't take one of each:
    1 LB
    1 RB
    1 DE
1 OT - I guess with to 2 guards already in the mix this is the one that is the least pressing.

  • Would love to hear some others' thoughts on this subject. Todd W--Who would you say Iowa has the best shot at landing right now? Are there any guys without offers that we can expect to get offers if they have great senior film?

I think either a LB or DE could be dropped from that based on where Trevon Young plays. But I'd also add another running back or fullback, plus (possibly) another receiver as well.
