call me what you will but I absolutely love, LOVE, the fact that McD threw away his medal......

Yeah, the fact that he did it, doesn't bother me much either. People are making more of it than it actually is. To me, it shows more about his passion to win than it does his sportsmanship

Well a 3 time finalist and 2 time champ has to have more pressure on him than anyone could ever imagine, and his mom pushes as hard as anyone. He has lost 7 times, I am sure he expects much more out of himself and it is more of a reflection of that than it is being a poor sport. And he got totally dominated it wasn't even close, it is possible he was so upset with his showing maybe he didn't think he deserved a medal at all.

Gold medals aren't really made of gold. They're made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts.

Yeah I can see that too. I just think in a sport like wrestling, there is a mentality that you have, and the emotions that you have, being just you and not a team, you get much more into it. It is more personal.

Not saying guys from team sports don't take losing personally, but it's just different

  • Of course now a Wisconsin fan on my FB is talking crap about it. Like I said to him, he would (and anyone crying about it) would piss and moan about anything a Hawkeye would do. Acting like it is the worst thing that ever happened and that it is disrespectful to the sport and the other wrestler. I don't get how it is disrespectful to the other wrestler

Eff any other fan base, they would talk trash about Iowa wrestling no matter what. They call Brands arrogant and an ahole, he is just confident and intense, the guy is a class act outside of wrestling. I mean if you want to see a freak and even more intense and a bigger ahole than Brands, look no further than Barry Davis, he is the worst of all of them, can hardly keep wrestlers on his team and the coaching staff. But I respect his drive, I am not calling him names. When you are the best you are either loved or hated, there is not much any in between.

  • I still remember watching Mark Perry toss his second place trophy from his first Midlands in the trash as he stepped off the podium. I have no problem with it - I think it just shows intensity.

As for other fan bases' take on anything related to the Hawkeyes? censored

  • Also, Iowa State's Kevin Jackson got a two year extension today. I think it kind of surprised everybody.

  • ESPN will broadcast EVERY session of the NCAA wrestling tournament.

15 National Championships and one Urban Meyer heart attack, Roll Tide. 23 NC's in wrestling and one badass Herky, Go Hawks.

Yeah it's something like the first two sessions will be on ESPN3, then the next 4 on ESPN3/U and the finals on ESPN. For some reason I can't find where I read all that earlier, but I'll keep looking.

It's no problem, it's just a joke that ESPN can cover this much larger event yet the BTN can barely cover the finials

Didn't surprise me, he has been behind the 8 ball since her got there, they are showing improvement and if they can actually get McCauley to stay committed, they will be creeping towards the top 10, I think he is a good coach, that and who are they going to get any better really.
