I'm meeting some family in Florida in a couple weeks and bought tickets to take my dad, brother in law, and 2 nephews to a Pirates/Redsox game in Bradenton, Fla.
I'm looking forward to it and I'm sure the boys will love it, especially if they can get some autographs. Anyone gone to one of these games? I asked around a little bit and was told to get there about 2 hours before for autographs. My nephews being 11 and 9, that will probably be the highlight of their day, so I want to make sure they get to meet some of the big boys and get their autographs.

I've been to a few, but arrived shortly before the game began each time. The advice you got makes sense, though, because at every game I went to, the starters all were taken out of the game by the end of the 6th inning, and we didn't see any of them after the game. Wouldn't be surprised if they went and showered while the rest of the game played out. There's typically a practice field next to the game field, and you'll see a bunch of guys warming up on that field during the first part of the game. From what I remember, once the starters are pulled, all of those guys will head over to the game field to go in the game. The backups should be pretty accessible even after the game, but the majority of those guys won't be on the roster come Opening Day, so it may not be as neat for your nephews to meet them.

Thanks, Todd. I mainly started this here because I saw you posting and figured you had been to a few. You're the biggest sports junkie around.
The kids love and play baseball, but I doubt they have any idea who the players are, but they'll probably just think it's cool to get any autograph from those guys.

I've been to some in Arizona to watch the Cubs back when they had a decent team like 5 years ago. Its nice because you are much closer to the action and the players seem to interact with fans more.

Never been to a spring training game, but I remember what my father said, as he'd been to a few back in the day, take a nice white ball and good, and I do mean good black ink pen. Not a sharpie...unless your signing a jersey.
Cheer for my Bucos! and have fun for us.

It's a fun time Perk......been to quite a few Spring games in my day. Get there early, but 2 hours seems kind of excessive. Maybe 1 hour or so. Yes, the big stars may be seen, early on, but they'll not play much. How can you beat watching your favorite team in the FL sunshine?
Have fun.
