Next Year's BB Schedule

  • Is there a schedule out for next year's basketball season yet? I haven't seen one.

If the schedule isn't finished, Iowa must schedule tougher non-conference games. I know Fran wanted this year's schedule the way it was so the team could get a sense of winning and develop players, and it has worked out. IMO it was the right thing to do.

I've heard in several games by the commentators, including last night, that our strength of non-conference schedule is so weak (besides ISU) that it hurts our big dance chances.

Does anyone know about next season's schedule and if there are any challenging games scheduled against higher RPI teams?

  • We will be in the Great Alaska Shootout for sure.

    Great Alaska Shootout
    November 27-30
Denver, Harvard, Indiana State, Iowa, Pepperdine, Texas Christian, Tulsa, Alaska Anchorage (Hardly RPI powerhouses)

Also supposed to be in a tournament in New York with Syracuse, Cal and Texas.
Hope that's true as I'll be able to attend. (Also some stronger OOC competition)

Tourney in New York vs the teams mentioned would be fun to watch.

The Great Alaska Shootout used to attract pretty good competition.

I remember when the Great Alska Shootout would draw just as good teams as the Maui Invitational

The tournament in NYC is actually for the following season, not the coming one. Also, don't forget the games vs. ISU and Drake that will happen always, plus one ACC team.

  • I remember the Dr. Tom days when Iowa scheduled a few tough teams before conference play.

    North Carolina, Duke...etc.

  • regardless of what the talking heads say about the strength our non-conference schedule, had Iowa beaten VaTech and Wichita State, we wouldn't be on the bubble right now.

I've heard you can look over and see Russia from there.

  • I would like to see home and homes scheduled with teams like Baylor, Tennessee, or California. Middle of the pack conference teams, obviously not a large number, but two from power conferences. Plus Iowa St, an ACC team and some mediocre mid majors would be a nicely rated, winnable schedule.

  • Least ways, we won't have to play Va Tech in the B1G/ACC Challenge. Every year they start out hot, and then fall flat on their faces.

  • If we would have just replaced Howard, UTPA, and TexAM CC with Toledo,S.Illinois, N.Dakota, and Ill. Chi and we would be in the tourney. Teams in the upper 100s or lower 200s instead of 300s.
