Can Iowa land two slightly undersized linemen from Southwestern Ohio in the 2013 class? With Brant Gressel already on board, click inside for Sean Welsh's thoughts on Iowa.

  • Sounds like he could be another early commitment if we can get him on a visit this summer.

That'll be the key. If Iowa really impresses him on that visit, I think the Hawkeyes could definitely be the team to beat.

The number of kids we've sent to the NFL recently should be our opening statement to all potential recruits. I don't very many people realize how successful KF coached kids have been in this pursuit. Perhaps this is because as a team, we've been pretty mediocre in recent memory (save the Orange Bowl year).

Then you show the kids of the Packers exec saying they look to the Best Hawkeye Available in the later rounds if they're not sure who to draft.

Then talk about how swell IC is and how a college education is what you put into it. That while Iowa has been very successful in getting people to the NFL, most don't go. But at the UI, you could get a great education that will be worth something once you're done playing.

    Then-hookers and blow.

EDIT: Not sure how this happened, but I tried to reply, and it ended up messing with your post.

  • And here's what I was trying to reply with: lol

The Iowa coaches do a great job of emphasizing the NFL track record and the coaching stability. When I speak with recruits who are just beginning to learn about Iowa, those are almost always the first two things they learn. They key to recruiting is identifying where you have a competitive advantage, and then doing everything you can to sell that.

As for the video on the Packers site, I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade, as it's definitely neat to see. However, the guy that said that is the editor of packers.com. In other words, he doesn't have anything to do with the evaluation process. And if the people in the personnel department really did take that approach, they'd never admit it publicly.

  • I've been hoping we offer this kid...he is a handful when it comes to run blocking.

Definitely, and I like his feet too. If he were 6'5'', I think he'd have a lot more bigger offers. Lots of similarities between him and Gressel.
