Mother refuses to sign LOI

  • Kid wants to be a razorback, announces that's where he is heading but his mom refuses to sign the LOI.

    Later his Dad signs it for him, but his mom hires a Firm to represent her in case of ligation.

    Long story short the kid is a razorback. But if his mom & dad both would've refused to sign the LOI, he would have had to wanted til he was 21.

    Does anybody find it funny that if you want to be a marine at 18 you can, but yet you need a parents signature to play college ball on full ride scholarship? This rule needs to be changed if you asked me. Kozan style.

    I agree but disagree. It's ok that the mom can sense something, and she should talk to her son about it.

    But at the end of the day she should support his desicion and not try to force something unnatural. I just find it ridiculous that he doesn't need a parents signature to start smoking cigarettes or chew tobacco but yet he needs a signature accept a full tide scholarship (food, house, clothes, & education)?????? What happens if his mother was the mom from 'The Waterboy' & thinks football is the devil

    What happens if the kid doesn't have any parents or legal guardians? Is he then authorized to sign for himself?

  • He would not have had to wait until he was 21. If he is 18, or when he turns 18, he could sign the document and it would be legally binding. Parents have to sign most LOI's because the kids aren't all 18 yet when they sign. There is nothing she can do about it. What a selfish, selfish woman.

    I heard about this a couple days ago. From what I heard they talked about letting him sign his own LOI without one of his parents signatures. But then his father signed so it didn't come to that. But they would have let him sign without one of his parents.

    That's my understanding, too, about the age situation.

    Without having any inside info here, my initial reaction was similar to yours. But there is so much that goes on behind the scenes in recruiting, that it's possible that she knows about or senses something that raises a red flag regarding Arkansas. If it's really just that she just wants him to stay closer to home or thinks Miami is the better choice, then I think she's way out of line. But if there's something shady regarding Arkansas, then I can see where she would be coming from. Again, I'm just speculating here.

    My understanding was that you just needed to be 18 in order to sign for yourself. Thanks for the clarification. The current rule doesn't make much sense.

  • I haven't opened those links, so don't know if this has been mentioned, but I saw on ESPN that his mom is getting a lawyer to try to stop him from going there. What a joke.
