Missouri DPOY nearing Iowa offer?

A defensive end that was named Co-Defensive Player of the Year in his state and helped lead his team to a state title as a junior may be closing in on an Iowa offer.

  • Well what the hell are they waiting for. A good defensive end that likes Iowa a lot? Nah makes too much sense

Gold medals aren't really made of gold. They're made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts.

  • So do you think if they offered him at the spring game he would commit? Seems like it would be an option.

  • DE is certainly a need. At his size though would be be looked at more as a linebacker? Losing 3 next year it would be a win either way.

  • He's got the frame to add 30 pounds and stay at DE. Kenney wasn't that big either and we had him at DE. Elijah could certainly stay at DE and it appears that is where Iowa is looking at him as well.

Kenny is and was 250lbs. This kid is only 210. Even when you put 30lbs on him, that is still 240, which is small for a DE in the Big Ten. And, by that time, he's already a second or third year player.

I like his speed though and Iowa could certainly use more of that, but I hope Iowa can find a true DE (like Kenney is) at some point instead of these kids with the speed but a need for a couple of years of weight training and adding weight before they are ready to hit the field.

It just appears that DE (and DT for that matter) is one of the hardest positions in the country to find players that are ready, size wise or conditioning wise, to contribute early.

And, the ones that are, become like Jadaveon Clowney and write their own ticket.

  • That is true but the way things are going today that is still closer to linebacker size. Manti Tao weighed in at around 241 and there was talk that was on the smallish side although that was middle linebacker. As has been mentioned before I think they should be able to get true D-ends with the track record they have.
