Voice of the Hawkeyes Board

A few years ago I had the good fortune to encounter Chris Doyle at the Ice Cream parlor in Coralville. It was the Hawkeye one, not the Dairy Queen. I thought I recognized him and spoke first. But he was very open and we chatted for a good 10-15 minutes about a lot of things, including Iowa Football. He seems like a very genuine, good person who just happens to coach Iowa Football players.

In the heat of a long and difficult season we loose sight of the fact that we are blessed with an array of extraordinarily talented and good people as coaches at Iowa. They are the best ambassadors we could ask for in the world of big time college football. We are very fortunate and should take a moment to step back and say "thanks."

I had a class (Theory and Ethics of Coaching) my first semester here and the lady who taught the course would go on a rant about how terrible of a person Alford was whenever his name got mentioned. It was absolutely hilarious, she would also rant about Jim Tressel and Urban Meyer as well, but I think she had a hatred above the rest for Alford, probably because she had actually met him on multiple occasions.

Pretty sure I read that KF donates his entire bonus from bowl game appearances to the Iowa City children's hospital, but doesn't publicize it. I know he and a lot of the players do a lot for the hospital. I've also heard that a lot of the allotted time he has for use of a private plane, via his contract, is used to fly in out of town relatives of kids that are in the children's hospital.

There are so many good stories about Kirk and his character and I don't think I've ever heard a bad one.

Let's also not lose site that unlike Hayden's era, Kirk has had PSU in the league for his entire tenure (which he's owned) and Nebraska. So, 4 of the most storied programs in NCAA history. He also has had a strong Wisconsin for the entire 14 year period. Not making excuses, but sometimes I think people forget the changing face of the Big Ten conference vs. the Fry era.

Now, I do want more wins, more consistency and more "sexy", but when you consider the teams that have been to BCS games in the last 35 years in the league, it's the Big 4, Wisconsin and Iowa then everyone else...during this period...

The Iowa performance during the KF era has been more of a heart beat chart but the highs have been high, the lows, no so much:)

I rarely rant & i never complain about his salary.

I don't hate him or praise him. KF is what he is and his record speaks for himself. He has had a ton of individual award winners under him, sent a lot of under dogs to the pros, rebuild a program in the gutters, won COY awards, and brought us to two BCS games but on the flipside we are rebuilding for the 3rd time under him, we struggle against NW & ISU, we've had one bragable recruiting class, and we are always behind the curve with innovative things like procombats, twitter, etc.
