Keenan Davis at East- West Shrine game

  • One scout, said this yesterday: Keenan Davis, WR, Iowa - "Iowa wide receiver Keenan Davis put in another great practice and is shaping up as one of the best offensive talents in the game. Galko believes he 'could be a fantastic interior-working receiver' in the NFL." - Alfie Crow, SB Nation

    This is my feeling also. Happy for Keenan, but very disappointed in this year's production. Which obviously he is only partially responsible for. That said, I don't see him making much of an impact in the NFL. His overall work ethic was questionable at Iowa and that came directly from someone close to the program.

  • That over the shoulder grab at MSU was a game changer....it's the one that I'll remember most from this past season of him catching (and Vandy throwing)!

    Good luck - I hope he does well and at least gets a shot via free-agent.

  • I wouldn't be surprised if Davis is a late round pick. You can't teach his size and athleticism.

  • any chance that Soup wasn't exactly doing his job, yea I know what McNutt did but com-on Davis was a 4* ad we all saw how 4* Arrington turned out, and by reports elsewhere GD, Doyle and BF complained about the 9-5 punch the clock type of attitude some of the Assistant coaches were developing. rather than p;lace all the blame on the HC just look at the Assistant coaches, as it is being rumored that Erb, Wilson and Johnson will be joining Soup off the staff.

    Oh my 1 4-star WR didn't turn out for Iowa and so he wasn't doing his job as a coach? You have no idea what the problem was with Soup, but I would bet it has a ton more to do with a combination of Keenan simply not developing like he should've (something which happens once in a while, no matter what their "star" ranking was out of high school), Vandendoom tossing 100 mph fastballs on short routes or missing him altogether, and the offensive philosophy. I'd say his resume speaks for itself and claiming he was lazy or not having the right mindset is uncalled for. I would bet it has much more to do with him disagreeing with the direction of the offense than being "lazy."

  • Wasn't this post about Davis? I see he made a few catches as well, I think he can be an average w.r in the NFL.

    Funny how these coaches were just fine until Brian Ferentz came along and complained they weren't working hard enough. How come the HC hadn't noticed this or did anything about this previously? We heard about the supposed staff dissension this fall. Did they not like the coach's son coming in and telling them they didn't work as hard as he thought they should?

    Just something to think about and wonder, especially if the info about the other asst.coaches being asked to look for employment elsewhere is true.

    Is he really that big? Isn't he listed at like 6'3" or something? So he is probably more like 6'2". That isn't that big for the NFL. I hope he gets a shot.     That's still big enough to be an asset to his draft stock.

    Asset might be a bit strong of a word for that. IIRC the average height of an NFL WR is ~6' 2" so his height may not be hurting him, but it's certainly not elite height and unless he really shows he can do a better job of catching the ball, his draft stock is going to stay very low. I remember that WR from Rutgers last year ran like a 4.6 or 4.7 40 at the combine and he was drafted because he was about 6' 6" and had proven to be a pretty reliable WR. Davis never really showed that in his career at Iowa, I kind of wish he had taken a RS freshman year, but I think he was promised playing time.

    I would be very surprised if KD ever places a down in the NFL. Lets remember that McNutt hasnt ever played yet. My only grip about the coaching of KD was not redshirting him.

    McNutt just finished his rookie year on a team loaded with Wr talent. Give him a chance. Geeesh.

    Loaded? Eagles? I wouldn't go that far. Sure they have a couple good players. But if I remember correctly McNutt was trying to beat out Riley Cooper for a roster spot. But yeah we should give him a chance. Kind of sucks the offense is about to completely change on him. Hopefully he can fit in there or find a spot somewhere else. Like on The Cowboys perhaps?

  • Maclin, Jackson, Avant are all established receivers in the NFL. Cooper has also been pretty productive when healthy. You don't usually see a ton of WR's come into the league and be really productive as rookies. He'll figure it out and find his way on to the field somewhere.
