Jok's WDM Valley team advances and

  • The defending State 4A champs, I.C. West won 74-30, last nite against CR Prairie.
Despite playing without its most talented player, Dondre Alexander, who quit the team after being suspended,
the IC West Trojans are certainly the favorite to repeat and win in Des Moines, again this year.

Wyatt Lohaus, son of Brad Lohaus, is only a junior and is easily an All State player with West.
I'd like to see the Iowa Hawkeyes go after Lohaus, who is still developing into a terrifc guard.

Believe that Bettendorf is also undefeated and will likely represent the Quad Cities in Des Moines.
Presumably, Peter Jok's WDM Valley Tigers will also be in the field. And that makes for some very
intriguing games at the Well, next week.

I wouldn't....unless he's willing to go the route that Darius Stokes went.

  • I'm pretty sure hes a UNI commit.

    I'm still wondering how a 7'0 dad, produces a 6'1 kid...still kinda boggles the mind...I would've figured 6'5 at least.

  • Lohaus is a 2014-15 UNI recruit. Morgan 2013.

It is too bad Dondre quit the team, because he would of been available for most of the tourney and I really wanted to seem him in match-up with Jok, in the final assuming it worked out that way.

Sky, you commented on Dondre having little family life; I agree such lack of that guidance may have contributed to his departure. If West takes it game by game and wins it all, it will be something very special and it may haunt--for not being apart of it--Dondre for the rest of his life

    WTF??

Wyatt Lohaus is an All State player on a couple of state championship teams.
D Stokes was a non-starter whose Dad played at Iowa. And also, Wyatt already has
good Division 1 offers. Sorry, but your boy Darius had none.

    Big, big difference.

I'm sure this is eating Dondre up inside, and will continue to do so. Hopefully for his sake, he'll have an outstanding college career, and possibly continue playing after that. I'm sure he'll never forget his senior year of high school, but making a number of other positive memories will certainly help.

Yep! I think he's a heck of a player, and if he were three inches taller, he would have gotten some B1G offers. I still think he has a higher ceiling in football, especially at his current height, but definitely respect the fact that he's going with what he loves the most.

  • I saw Valley play Ames Friday. It was 37-37 at one point in the 3rd quarter. Jok had half of Valley's points but also picked up his 4th foul. Horner had to take him out. Led by 5-10 guard Tanner Hinkle, who's an outstanding all-around athlete, Valley turned up the defensive pressure and won 75-57. Hinkle couldn't miss, jacking up five 3's and finishing as the game-high scorer with 23. Jok had 22 but was basically invisible in the second half and Clint Boffeli 15.

Valley's an enigma to me. They have half-dozen kids 6-5 or taller but Jok's the tallest starter at 6-5. The rest are 5-10, 5-10, 6-2 and 6-5, all seniors. First two kids off the bench are a 6-3 junior and a 6-0 junior. The rest of their big guys' purpose is to wow opposing teams and their fans with Valley's size. And because Jok favors the 3, their inside presence is lacking on offensive. He's a great scorer but needs work on defense, but that's generally true of most high school kids.

19-3 Valley's sub-state final is Tuesday against 17-5 Roosevelt at SE Polk, which should be interesting since that's the school Jok transferred from. I don't think they've played since the 2nd game of the 2011-12 season, in which Jok committed as many fouls as he scored points (3). There was a lot of bad blood, very rough play, a lot of cheap fouls. His ex-teammates may a determined effort to get into his head and he let them. He was obviously not healthy with Patrick Ewing-like knee pads on both knees. The Rough Riders have a lot of motivation, an opportunity to not only upset a higher ranked team but show up two ex-teammates as 5-10 senior Peter Nixon, who starts at guard along with Hinkle, also transferred from Roosevelt with Jok. If you're a Hawk on the east side of the metro, it might be a game worth going to SE Polk and watching.

You're just Flat-out wrong and I'd guess you've never seen Wyatt Lohaus play.

Wyatt Lohaus was offered by UNI as a sophomore. He's alot more athletic than your boy,
J Ogelsby and plays point, not 3 point jacker.

Also, Wyatt Lohaus has tons more pedigree than your boy. In addition, Wyatt's HS Team is quite
possibly going to win 3 state championships. Ogelsby won NONE.

    Just sayin..........

  • I guess valley was eliminated before state, not sure by who, but IC West (seeded second) just advanced by defeating Des moines Dowling 63-59 in overtime. Morgan and Lohaus had 19 and 18 respectively to pace West. Iowa FB Recruit Jon Wisnieski had 16 pts and 8 boards for Dowling.

West next faces Dubuque Senior Friday at 3:15 pm.

Very impressive for Jon to play at such a high level when he's focused so much more on football than on basketball.

That track record with tight ends is one of the things that led Jon to commit to Iowa. I know he'd love to be a part of that.

Can't scoop em all sky, if you did Todd wouldn't have a job to do; anyways I did give you credit for the open practice in west des moines.

How does one pronounce Wisnieski anyway--I hope he gets a good nickname when he joins the team?

  • IC Wests advances with a 52-36 thumping of Dubuque senior. Morgan and Lohaus again pace the trojans with 17 and 13 pts. respectively. They now face Bettendorf--which squeaked by Cedar Falls 39-36--in the Championship game.

If Dondre were still on West's team, there would be very little doubt IC West would repeat. But it seems like Morgan and Lohaus can bring it home with a small supporting cast.

  • What was the final score of the IC West vs. Bettendorf 4A championship game?

    Flyhawk12

  • 54-36 West. Along with Ames’ 2009-10 title winners, the Trojans (26-0) became just the second large-school team to complete back-to-back undefeated seasons.
