  • Is he commentating it or doing some athletic trainer stuff for his med school app?

  • I wish he would have had a good senior year. He seems like a really good guy and team player. Very intelligent when he speaks and was a good hawkeye. Sucks he had to end it the way he did

Couldn't have said it any better. Either way, the kid is gonna succeed in life.

  • I don't know why but this made me think of Stanzi and JVB. Kind of funny Stanzi couldn't be out a bad Cassel or Quinn last year. And none of the qbs at Iowa could beat out JVB last year. Didn't they expand the NFL preseason rosters? I would like to see a team give him a chance if nothing else.

  • Trust me, a lot of people in KC thought Stanzi should have been given more of a look. Crennell refused to do it. Much to Pioli's disapproval. Now they are both gone. Many saying Stanzi might be the only current QB on roster in 2013.

Yeah I hope they don't use the #1 pick on a qb. Luckily there is no Luck or RG3 this year. Sounds like Stanzi will at least get a shot this year. Looked like they have to pay Cassel big money if they keep him this year.

He'll definitely get a shot, and I think he has a realistic chance to stick in the league. Personally, I think a lot of people here underrate him severely.

Think he can start in The NFL someday? Or are you just talking like a Seneca Wallace career or something less than that?

He'll obviously need to be in the right place at the right time, because as a late-round pick or undrafted free agent, he'll have an uphill climb to win a starting job. If he gets in the right system and his pocket presence continues to improve, then yes, I do think he can become a starter. I think he was one of the better pure passers in college football. His pocket presence improved from awful to average between 2011 and 2012. If it can improve from average to good sometime in the next few years, then I think he's got a realistic shot of becoming a starter.

But even if he doesn't ever start a game, the fact that he isn't a turnover machine, he's got some physical talent and he's a good locker room guy should enable him to stick as a second or third string quarterback.

    Are you kidding?

Ive been thinking for the last couple weeks that you are playing devil's advocate. Throwing a different opinion out there to spark a good convo. You always bring up good points but to say that JVB has a chance to make a roster as the 2nd or 3rd QB is crazy. Too far. Calling shenanigans.

ZERO chance JVB ends up a 2nd or 3rd team guy.

Physical talent? Hes kinda tall. Average arm. No touch. Happy feet. Locks on to recievers. Did i mention no touch?
Not a turnover machine? Cause the ball is uncatchable for anybody on O or D not named Jerry Rice.
Good locker room guy? Neat. Teams dont look for the 3rd string non-traveling QB for a pep talk.
Figure 32 teams so hes top 100 in the world? C'Mon Man!

There are times where I'll present an argument that I don't necessarily side with just for the sake of discussion, but I always clearly state that that's the case.

I'm completely serious here regarding Vandenberg. I honestly disagree with a lot of your opinions about him. And he wouldn't be at the NFL Combine if he were anywhere near as bad as people try to make him out to be.

    Fair enough. We shall see.

  • I think JVB really comprehends the game well and knows what to do in certain circumstances and is a real student of the game. Unfortunately he just couldn't use that knowledge to execute it on the field. I don't know what his future playing career will entail but I bet he would make a hell of a coach because he just loves the game and is willing to put in work. Maybe one day he will come back as a GA or something

    Average arm.

He has a very strong arm, and that's really what's gotten him in the door at the combine...oh and that hes from that developmental school called, Iowa.

He'll either end up being a late round flier for a team or UDFA. It'd be almost better as a UDFA, as he would be able to pick his spot...choose who has a the need, what system and personal they have...etc, etc, etc.

    Oh Ok.

So JVB is gonna get drafted? James Vandenberg.

And CJF is going pro early. Did he get a combine invite?

So between you and Todd you guys are saying that JVB will get drafted and end up as a 2nd or 3rd string QB in the NFL.

I dont watch as much NFL as some, but evidently I watch more than most.

KF has had 1 QB drafted in his time at Iowa. Our heisman runner-up never got a sniff from the league, but JVB with his "very strong arm", ball security and locker room manners will. Thats rich.

The guy just lead one of the worst offenses in the country. W/O Marvin McNutt he looked lost the whole year. Hopefully KOK lands an NFL OC job because any other offense he will not feel comfortable in.

Before someone says it, yes he has taken snaps under center.

No one said he'd definitely get drafted, just that he has a chance to. We both said there's a good chance he'll sign on somewhere as an undrafted free agent. Again, there's no way he'd be at the combine if NFL folks thought he was as bad as a lot of fans think he is.

  • Vandenboom is not an NFL quarterback.

Matt Leinert does nothing but hold clipboards on the sidelines of whatever team he's on. He was an all-star in college.

Vandenboom is not good enough to even stand and hold the clipboard on an NFL sidelines.

    Maybe CFL?

I thought after his junior he would have a chance. Greg Davis' offense, coaching, and a lack of McNutt at receiver ruined it.

Leinart also played on an extremely stacked offense in college. Production in college, especially at quarterback, isn't always an indicator of how a player will do in the NFL.

Yeah USC qbs in the NFL aren't exactly lighting the world on fire. I don't think it's that crazy that he could land a job somewhere. He does really well in the uptempo style of offense. So hopefully he goes somewhere that fits that.

So his work one year in a true pro-style offense with a good back, OL and receivers is somehow pissed away because of a bad year in a brand new system w/new terminology and reads, substandard receivers, and carousels at RB and OL? huh
