IMO the funny part is with just a little bit of better coaching this team wins 6 games and goes bowling. Thats on KF. Thats also just how easy this schedule is. I dont care what it ranks, its the easiest Iowa schedule Ive ever seen.

Two things:
1.) No. I do think this was a bowl capable team and failed to make a bowl due to coaching. I don't think Iowa will ever go to the NC game under KF (if Bill Synder can do it at KState, a coach can do it at Iowa). The thing is though, there's a lot of young talent on this team and we could have a nice run coming up. If KF leaves the program on consistent successful note, the next coach will have a great chance at bringing us to that next level. If KF leaves today, we lose our recruiting class after building 2 nice ones and having déjà vu all over again.
2.) Why do you care about downvotes? Do you really care about what random interweb people think of your opinion? Are you going to take your VOH rating with you when you die or are you leaving it to someone in your will? Does your rating impress your wife? Does it make your d*** look bigger?
If you answered yes to any of those questions I feel sorry for you and you probably shouldn't have posted this thread knowing you'd probably get downvoted. If you answer no, grab a beer put in a chew and do something manly while promising to never complain about downvotes again cause ppl that complain about downvotes wear skirts. Post what you wanna post and who gives a _____ what ppl rate you, it's your opinion and if they don't like it _____ them.

I can certainly blame the coaches for our loss to CMU. But the losing streak all came about from one MSU helmet on Weisman's ankle. Point blank.
No Weisman against PSU? And that changed the dynamics of our offense. Then our 2 biggest and best OL go down within 3 plays of each other and are lost for the year. Our EXCELLENT OL becomes an AVERAGE to below average OL. What does that do? Forces our less than stellar D stay on the field longer.
'Nuff said.
(Was interesting to hear the commentators from today's game, when one tells the other that Iowa has had 18 players drafted, and the one was just so flabbergasted by that fact. Bundle that with the players who have left either thru leaving or graduation, and the margin of error for this team was low. Its not "bad coaching"...but maybe bad recruiting.)

And while Scherff is/was definitely Iowa's best run blocker, he's not a good enough pass blocker to be a great left tackle at this point. He was playing out of position by necessity since Iowa didn't have anyone better, and I think his struggles in pass pro would have been magnified as the season progressed. .

Nothing against Weisman, but I really don't think he's THAT much better than Bullock or Garmon to the extent that his injury cost Iowa any games. IMO, Iowa played against some below average defensive fronts in the first five games, and he - and the offensive line - really benefited from that.
Also, I've seen a lot of people say that Iowa's two best offensive linemen went down with an injury. Scherff is at least arguable, but Donnal wasn't even a regular starter until Blythe got hurt. I'd take James Ferentz or Tobin over Donnal at this point (obviously before Donnal was hurt). And while Scherff is/was definitely Iowa's best run blocker, he's not a good enough pass blocker to be a great left tackle at this point. He was playing out of position by necessity since Iowa didn't have anyone better, and I think his struggles in pass pro would have been magnified as the season progressed. I think Iowa was still bound to hit some bumps in the road up front as the opposing defensive lines improved once conference play began.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think Weisman is the 2nd coming of Bo Jackson, far from it. What he had going for him is he just ran the ball. He bulled his way, always kept his feet moving and was a nightmare for Defensive players. He was simply effective.
As for Scherff, hes still fairly young, as is all our OL, with the exception of Ferentz. His pass blocking wasn't the best, especially against the speed edge rushers, but if you can lean on the DL in run blocking play after play, and use the play action, the DL aren't as frisky at they might have been.
As for Donnal, I guess I am bit biased, but once Blythe went down, Iowa replaced a 6'3 280 lb kid with a 6'7 310 lb kid and the OL played that much better. Donnal natural position is LOT, not ROG. When Scherff got hurt, I was stunned that they did not flip him over, since he has been the back up LOT on the 2-deeps all season. The chose to bring in Nolan MacMillan who as a freshman was a Big Ten All-American at ROG to play Donnal's natural position, and left Donnal at his.
All I know is that when the 3 of them went down, so did our season. Call it what you want, but its more than just coincidence.

Is it time for Ferentz to move on?
