  • Would be a good get.

Gold medals aren't really made of gold. They're made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts.

  • I don't know how anybody would want to play for a sleazeball like Beckman. I golfed with an Illini donor this summer who is fairly connected and he basically told me that barring a miracle Beckman's days are already numbered. Said he makes Zook look like an Ivy league scholar. Players are already tuning him out, and that if he makes it past next season he would be shocked. Said wasn't more than a month after he was hired that there was people in the program complaining about his behavior and antics.

That said, Spearman is a very good football player and probably under rated for the kind of production he has put out this season. I would be thrilled if he chose Iowa.

I don't know Beckman at all, and I don't have any inside information about the Illinois program. But from the 2012 and 2013 recruits I've talked to that were/are being pursued by Illinois, there's a lot of excitement about the future of that program. If they can keep their 2013 class intact, I do think this is a program that's on the rise.

  • One could argue that Illinois can only be on the rise as they really can't fall any farther:)

lol Just meant that their coaches have done a good job of selling the opportunity of turning the program around.

It's definitely been a long year in Champaign. At some struggling programs, there isn't much external hope for better days. But I've gotten the feeling that there is at Illinois, at least among the recruits and the true freshmen on the roster.
