Iowa leads the all-time series vs. Indiana State

  • We beat the Sycamores back in 1941 and lead the all-time series 1-0.

    Silver, Starch, any recollections?

    NYCHawkeye

  • Boy, what a tough draw. I think Ind St is tougher than UMass even. They've beaten SEC champs in Ole Miss, ACC champs in Miami, UNI twice and Creighton. Not bad at all. Luckily, the game is at Carver. Let's pack it and make some noise folks.

Iowa should have been seeded ahead of UMass. 5th in Atlantic ten vs. 6th in the BiG. Or swap us with Baylor even.

Whatever, let's get Mad and win.

  • ISU has been a very quirky, up-and-down team this year.

Haven't heard from Starch for a very long time on here. I wonder what has happened.

I bet Larry Legend is proud of his Sycamores making a tournament.

He posted several times on a BB thread last week. But that's been about it since FB season.

NYC is right, he recently posted here.

First off, starch wasn't born yet in 1941 that I recall and I am not sure about Silver. If so I would guess he would have been in diapers.

I believe starch his lovely wife Snoopy have been spending alot of quality time with close family, grand children, and friends since he has sold his business that I can recall. He still has an office that he bought and re-decorated and is on a small leash with the company as part of the transaction. I think he has a little interest in Bio Bag yet but winding down. I think there are caribbean sailing events in his near future. Hopefully Mrs ihawks and I can join next year.

  • Yes, I read through some of the threads and noticed starch had recently posted.

I miss the days from the PC when 80s and a few others would go back and forth with many of us.

Some of the regulars from the PC have disappeared. I know Harley used to live here in the Houston area, but I believe has since moved (and no longer posts). I believe Schnebby has become busy with work and family.

Ahhh, the good ole days. biggrin

I believe Schnebby has added a little one to the family and that has significantly added to his dismissal from here. Hopefully he will be back here and at tailgate in I.C.

Schnebby real busy with the new addition. I'm sure he'll be back.

I don't think NorCal and IsraHawk know about VOTH. They were always very active on the BB game threads.

    And where's Harley?

iHawks, we're already planning on the home opener on Aug. 31.

lol... no, not quite that old!! I'm much more a baby boomer than a silent generation guy.....

Although I've supported the Hawks through good and bad, the good is "funner", as my grandson says. I tend to be less active when the Hawks go flat, for fear mediocrity might be contagious..... but support them I will... we've had a long run now of average BB and it's good to see light at the end of the tunnel. Let's hope our fb future is as bright.

Ihawks has me pegged on the other stuff. Where the hell is Harley, btw?

I know Harley used to live in the northern part of the Houston area. I at one time was trying to get him to come to the Houston Hawkeye game watches on Saturdays. He was a pretty busy guy.
I last heard through the grapevine that Harley had moved back to Iowa. That has not been confirmed.

  • Hey, Starch is alive... how well, we don't know. but good I'd assume =) Yeah, he's not that old. I think Silver and Golden are right up there. But there's one more in Ohio, armysaber?

Now, where is BBR? is he too busy assisting Trev Alberts?

BBR very much around and has been following Iowa BB. We exchanged some texts during the NW game in the first round of the BIG.

When we first all ventured over to this message board, I believe armysaber was posting but under a different name.

BBR has been on here from time to time.

  • Ironically, it was Harley that suggested this site as our new home when Gannett and the ICPC turned their backs on us.

  • After reading this thread, I knew I had to add to it.

The old days on the ICPC Forum were a lot of fun. I miss some of the fun exchanges. But time moves on, and with the demise of the old forum, this site has provided a good home. Thinking back to some of the old timers that made the forum interesting, I miss E.B Bass. Do you remember when we all were trying to get him to log in and post more stories about his time on the Hawkeye Football team? Jon Lazard presence on the old forum is missed here too. There were several former Hawk football players that posted and occasionally offered stories about the good old days. My father wrestled for the Hawks back in Kinnicks day and I recounted a couple of Dad's experiences with the ironmen on the forum too. Those extended thread brought a lot of color to the site.

GoldenHawk is a newer acquaintance that I really appreciate. He was a late comer to the old forum too. Lonely and the dame that posted under five different handles got into some god awful fights. I tended to appreciate Lonely for her knowledge of all things Hawkeye. She did not seem to know it all as the other dame. But their fights did get tedious at times. Keosa is another poster that seems to me missing around here. There are a lot more that added to the Old Forum, that are missing. But those are the ones that come to mind right now. Reminiscences are great, but a successful football team and a successful basket season for both Men's and Women's team, backed up with an NCAA Wrestling Title would really set my mouth to watering. While we wait for those eventualities, this is a pretty good spot to share our hopes, dreams, and frustrations.

Keep up the good work Todd. Your reporting on sports topics runs rings around the Old ICPC reporting. We, none of us, miss Pharty Harty. But the Forum was a special place for nearly 10 years. Given time, your history here has every chance to match of exceed what we had before we came here.

    GO HAWKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I remember all those Ernest T. Bass "sightings."

Keo's on Rivals. I'm there as well, but don't post much as things gets buried so fast and there are also too many wiseguys on that board.

Last I heard Lonely moved to the DM area.

The "other dame" is on VOTH. Figured it out yet?

I have seen a poster on here with a monicker like the "other dame" carried, but on here she/he has not been nearly as big a know-it-all as he/she was on the Old Forum. As long as she/he keeps that tenor, I will refrain from condemning him/her for past obnoxious posts.

Glad to hear about Keo. Yes, Lonely moved back to Des Moines and last I saw her she had the love of her life and was still coming to Hawkeye Football games. I looked for, but did not see the Hawkmobile in her regular parking spot last season. But I encountered her there after one of the games.

    Good memories over all.

You're correct about the "other dame". Totally different posts on here vs the old PC forum. He/she was almost like a bully on the PC forum.

80s was quite entertaining. I kind of miss reading people going back and forth with 80s. The difference is on here, 80s would've probably been banned as the PC didn't have moderators monitoring people's posts.

    u2Hawk

  • 80's and Starch had some legendary exchanges. Poor Starch - he tried to use logic.

It's hard to believe that, will Iowa's and KF's travails this past season, the old '80's hasn't surfaced to gloat.

Here are some names to stir the memories: Angryhawk, tyroneshoelaces, Hugh Chardon, klemme, Downtown Hawk, ehawks.

  • Reminiscing again, eh?

Downtown put 80's in her place a few times when he did speak up. There were Don Smith, Crayon, Kicker... and Chicago Hawk (the Handimart dude =).

What happened to Jeebs and Closer? I thought they found this place. So, did Spit.
