I heard this earlier today, and figured I'd pass it along. Would you take a guaranteed national title for Iowa in 2013 if the catch was 15 years of struggles (we'll say 7 or less wins per season)? You can apply this to football or basketball. For basketball, the catch would be 15 years without an NCAA Tournament appearance.

For football, I'd take a National Championship, even if it meant 15 years of no more than 7 wins. Heck, yes. No for BB though........not just 7 wins........that would be terrible.

No.
I would much rather have consistent success. Watching my favorite team struggle can be stressful, so it wouldn't be worth 15 years of stress for 1 season of glory. Part of winning the Championship is the momentum it creates, and a guarantee of no future momentum would diminish the value. It would also raise a ton of questions about how that championship was earned, if 15 years of struggles followed.

The one thing to keep in mind is that, in the subsequent 15 years, you would enter each season knowing that Iowa will win at most seven games in football, or not make the NCAA Tournament in basketball. So while the losses might be disappointing, it might take a lot of the drama and heartbreak out of it.

Most likely, yes. But sometimes you'll see the bottom just fall out on a program, similar to what has happened with Auburn since winning it all in 2010. Maybe the season immediately following the national title is filled with injuries and flukish, heart-breaking losses, and then things just spiral downhill from there.
