I Wish the Sycamores Were the Sycalesses

  • i'm a smidge worried about the wednesday match-up with indiana state. i'd feel better if the hawks had clawed their way into the nit instead of falling into it. given iowa's offensive liabilities, it is hard for them to beat a solid team without a strong effort on defense and on the boards. i expect the hawks are quite capable of winning if they can muster the required defensive and rebounding effort. i'm just not sure they're in the mood to invest that effort--or more precisely, i'm not sure they'll be in the mood at tip-off.

hope the hawks are hanover free.

  • Silver- OH YE OF LITTLE FAITH!!!

I for one am confident in both the Hawks' mental and physical abilities to come fully armored and prepared for the Thursday game. The players will be ready. Fran will not let them do otherwise. Nor will the fans at CHA, I suspect. I get the feeling that EVERYONE has bought into Fran's thinking and philosophy by now. Last year was a first step with toe in the water and were one and done (but it was fun to be in a post-season game, wasn't it?). This year was building both experience and confidence with a team of talented freshman who were just getting baptized into college hoops. Yep, had an easy pre-season schedule and paid for it with nobody asking us to the dance. The Hawks now know it's time to put their NEXT best dance step forward before they can dance-the-dance with the big dogs. Hawks WILL NOT dissappoint in the NIT! Fran is the Man, Hawks are the team, and fans have a dream. FEAR NOT! The Hawks will rock.

  • no fear. Vegas has Iowa favored by 11.5! =) ...but they also have Minny favored over UCLA. loco

ISU had some big wins i.e. over Miami, Ole Miss, Creighton, UNI twice... but they do have 14 losses. So, if Iowa brings their A game like in the 1st half vs MSU, then, it shouldn't be a problem.

I was looking at their schedule earlier. I didn't realize the quality wins they had. Looks like the fell apart a little at the end of the season.

After last Friday's debacle, we will see either of 2 teams...

    1. Play with the "we'll show you" attitude and make a great NIT tourney run, showing the NCAA committee they made a mistake by overlooking Iowa, or...

    2. Not in the mood to invest the effort and bow out early because of sloppy play, missed bunny shots, turnovers, and once again, allowing a lead to slip away in the closing minutes

I hope we see team number 1

  • I would hope that a #3 seed in the NIT would be sufficient motivation.

Minny is favored over UCLA because UCLA's freshman PG who is their #2 scorer broke a bone in his foot and is out for the season.
