Hypothetical situation: what's your take?

  • Here's the situation. Iowa's top overall recruit on the board in the entire class can take one visit to Iowa City at any point between Signing Day of his junior year and Signing Day of his senior year. He has no timetable for making his final decision, and he can't take any additional visits to Iowa after that one visit.

When would you want him to visit? Why?

I'd say the home night game of that given year, regardless of who it is. I think Iowa has its best foot forward for that game. The atmosphere is as electric around IC for night games as it is any other time of the year.

I agree 100% that is easily going to be put premier recruiting weekend every year and the atmosphere is a lot different than afternoon games. Kinnick is an impressive site IMO in day games as well and we're more than capable of getting the stadium rocking, but honestly as much as I love the home night game, I think it's best for us only having 1 game a year because it means more to everyone involved. Anyone who goes to the night games knows what it's like and if we feel it, you know the players and recruits will too.

Any Big Ten home game....gives plenty of time to recruit him in advance. Nothing better than I.C. on a football weekend, then have time to follow up after the game before signing day if he doesn't decide that weekend. Honestly, just getting a recruit to Iowa City is half the battle, but getting him to Iowa City on a big ten football weekend is the best Iowa has to offer.

Completely agree. The atmosphere for the home game at night is always unmatched.

  • Really enjoying all of your responses so far, and I agree about the atmosphere in Kinnick for a night game being outstanding. My only thing from a recruiting perspective is that it's difficult for the coaches to spend a lot of quality time with the recruits on a game weekend, especially when it's one of those huge visit weekends (like the night game always will be). So with some kids, seeing a regular practice in mid August might be best, or even visiting when the coaches are relatively free (say between Signing Day and spring practice or between spring practice and fall camp).

  • And it obviously varies from recruit to recruit, as they're all looking for something different. I was just curious to hear what you all thought.
