  • I'd imagine he has the typical east coast recruit's picture of U of I being in the middle of a cornfield right now. His visit will be key in getting his commitment and I hope we do!

His visit will definitely be key, but I don't think he has that negative of a perception of Iowa, or he probably wouldn't visit in the first place. The one worrisome factor here is that he loves that BC is in Boston. Hopefully that doesn't play too big of a role in his decision.

Sine Missione -- Never be a spectator for unfairness or stupidity, argue for arguments sake; the grave will give plenty of time for silence.

  • Hope we get him, but a bit puzzling to me as well. With limited spots to be still going hard after a 2* athlete. A bit weird.

  • He plays LB a little bit? Maybe the Hawks are recruiting him there. He could be the next Rohan Marley.

lol They're both similar size! I think Jacquille just plays it in certain packages on a situational basis though.

  • Here's a theory--perhaps the new DC will lead to a shift in philosophy that features more nickel and dime packages and thus the necessity for a couple extra defensive backs on the roster. I have no facts to back this idea up, but I could see it, given the number of DBs commits and the fact that JV is still on Iowa's radar.

Gold medals aren't really made of gold. They're made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts.

Possibly, but I think that overall the coaching staff is just trying to get as many athletes on board as possible, and Davis' comments about needing more speed on the outside may extend the entire team. I'd bet that if they'd get Veii on board, he would not be the first one of the WR commits to switch to DB because of what he can do with the ball in his hands.

Another thing to think about is that some of the recent DB commits may grow into LB's. I say that with one specifically in mind: Lile. I've always thought that he'd end up at LB because he was listed at 6'3" as a recruit. Plus I remember reading that Wilson (when still LB coach) pushed Norm to recruit big safety-types for LB's, the argument being that they could cover more space than the typical 220-240 lb LB recruit, whereas Norm was more old school, wanting LB recruits who could come up and stop the run first.

I've also read that Fleming and possibly Draper are starting out at WR.

  • I just read that Veii has committed to Maryland.

Yeah, the Terps just offered today, and he committed shortly thereafter.
