Next year is our year....and while we should be good for the next several years (as long Fran continues to recruit well) I strongly feel it will be next year that is our best chance at making a deep run in the NCAA tournament...especially if Marble returns, which he definitely should.

You heard it hear first peace

    Agreed.

we have have an outside shot at the NIT, but if you actually think this team is going dancing then i've got a rare $3 bill i'd like to sell you biggrin

Outside shot at the NIT? I'm assuming that is hyperbole. As for the NCAA, they still have a lot of opportunities for marquee wins. Iowa doesn't have any really bad losses so snagging a few big wins could tip the scales in Iowa's favor. Especially with all of the hype the B1G has gotten.

We're gonna be on the bubble alright -- the NIT bubble.

  • As pissed off of a game today was, IA chances in the NCAA is slim but plausible. IA need to win at Wisc and get 10 conference wins. They are playing close games on the losses: IND, MSU, OSU, PUR, and MN. They should sweep the bottom teams and win Wisc on Wednesday and revenge on MN at home. There's still a slim chance. I believe.

Iowa is a NIT barring any kind of meltdown by the team. They should win 7 of their last 8 games. A Big Ten team with 20/21 wins will not be left out of a tournament.

Yep. I'm guessing those saying that Iowa is on the NIT bubble aren't wholly serious.

I've never said that Iowa would be dancing. I've had us NIT all the way. Not so much on performances like that, but more to do with, what I call the chicken censored OOC schedule Fran put together.

I will now say that that schedule maybe to blame for results like today. Hard to learn how to finish a tough, close road game when you spend 2 months playing the "St Joe's School for the Blind and Deaf"s of the world.

Well, perhaps a lil better than outside shot, the NIT is definitely in reach.

However, what "big wins" are now left on the schedule besides at Indiana??

Minny will lose a couple more between now and our next game with them, so they will not be ranked. If Wisky loses today at Illi than they will also be unranked when we play them. Not sure where else these "big wins" will come from prior to the BTT??

does it really take a "big" win to get to the NCAA tourney? i think just taking care of regular business gets them 21 wins, and add 2 more in the BTT = 23. GDMT - that is not good enough?

when you're a bubble team, which iowa definitely would be, then quality wins play a big part in the decision on whether to extend an invite....or so i've always been led to believe.

right now, iowa has TWO "semi-quality" wins: iowa state and wisconsin

...neither of whom are currently ranked.

Getting 4 top 50 wins would possibly do it. If one of those is top 25 then I'd say they're in as long as they don't have a bad loss.

  • Only way Iowa gets into the Dance now without winning the BTT is to either finish the conference slate on a 7-2 run (highly unlikely), or, 6-3 run with a couple of wins in the BTT.

Sorry, but that is the reality of the situation.

  • I will amend that by saying that we could finish 6-3 with a win vs Indiana and we could probably get an invite regardless of how we do in the BTT......"could" being the operative word in that sentence.
