  • 73-61. Final.

  • At least the game film will have lots of things for them to work on. 2-0. Thursday night is the next game against Gardner-Webb, they lost to UNC by 16 pts.

  • Gesell and Clemmons both look as good as advertised I didnt know it was on tv until the last portion so I cant say too much but from what I saw we have a lot to look forward to.

Gold medals aren't really made of gold. They're made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts.

  • Is the next game on TV? Had to watch this one late. Agree with Lao. Lots to work on. MG is fantastic but I was surprised with how little AW played. I like the different looks and line ups, which will hopefully win Iowalots of games. Two great pg's. it feels great, doesn't it? Anyway, I think it will be a year or two before we can be a contender, but we will be there. Go Hawks.

  • Woodbury looked lost out there (it's only his 2nd game), this Clemmons kid really wanted to play and it showed, and Gessel is the real deal. In fact, it's only the 2nd game for all 3 mentioned here.

    Let's Go Hawks!

    Thursday is against Howard.

  • Iowa will be good, but they really struggled in the first half tonight. It took awhile for them to finally make some baskets. If they can improve their shooting they win by 20+. The defense seems better than last year and I'm happy to walk away with the W tonight. Tough fought game, but a W is a W. Need to improve in a lot of things.

  • Howard on Thursday and Gardner-Webb on Sat.

Sounds easy, but we can't afford any "Campbells" this pre-conference season.

    Let's Go Hawks!

  • My mistake on the schedule. The next two games will be online again, for those not familiar, there's live streaming for that. Just check out here and someone should provide the link. I will miss Thursday night's first half since I have teacher conference for both my girls and can't record live streaming. Oh well, should be a blow out.

The team is young and Fran is not afraid to play the two PG freshmen and go small to win it. White still had a decent game even though it looked he struggle early. There's just too many weapons on this young squad, there's no way they will miss March Madness this year. They do still need to work on perimeter defense...

HL, come here earlier and start drinking next time, lol. Good to see you, any way to go to rival (or where ever he hangs out now) and tell Big D to get here somehow?

I tell you what brother UI I like watching Iowa Bball but I know very little about it so why don't we help each other in the sports we don't know. Wrestling for you B Ball to me? Sound good?

  • Missed the game had last night of tryouts for my JV team have it set to tape tomorrow morning I think it runs at 10:30 Central time.

I think we will see some games like this early in the season. I like the flexibility that Fran seems to have to work with, although I would like us to be able to dictate our game instead of just match up with them. We knew going into the season that with Zach, Aaron, and Woody all on the floor at the same time we could have trouble with quicker teams. The coaching staff adjusted and the team for the most part pulled away.

    Go Hawks!

I'll try, Lao. I didn't get home early to get on line.

We're missing a lot of people from the old site. I'll check out rival tonight.

One thing about this site: I wish there were separate boards for each sport.

The BTN is promoting their broadcast of the next game on the regular BTN channel. I will be here watching. So far, the season has not looked like it needs much screaming...yet.

    GO HAWKS!!!!!!!

  • Some things I took away from last nights game (was my first seeing this year's squad)...

This team has some intriguing length to it. Not only w/Woodbury, White & Basabe up front but for the 3 whole minutes Olaseni was in there, he played exceptionally well. I would have loved to see him get more minutes. Add in the length that Marble brings to the back court, and this team is going to be forcing a lot of turnovers.

Offensive efficiency in the 1st half was sad. Not sure if its early season chemistry issues or just inexperience at times, but our spacing was just awful. Just no room to drive or drive and kick.

Zach McCabe...??? He forced a lot of things last night, and could be the odd man out if he doesn't smarten up. Anytime a guy comes down and just chucks up a 3 with 28 seconds on the shot clock, he should be seeing the bench more. The guy can score, but it needs to be in the flow of the offense.

Outside shooting left a lot to be desired. Ogleslby will have to get his shot going, cuz frankly that's his reason to be on the floor. And I knew Gesell could shoot, but I thought Clemons was a defensive specialist...lol...his deft shooting was surprising to me.

Also, anyone else notice that Marble played the whole game? Need to find a rotation that does not include him playing 40 minutes. The season is long.

Overall, defensively the athleticism and length stood out the most to me. Offensively, need to work more on the half-court stuff, it seems that if Iowa can't run, they struggle a bit. Rebounding was excellent, 14 offensive and +10 overall for the game. Turnovers...15? A bit too many for me, for the ball handlers we have. There's some nice pieces to this team...need to gel more, but the season maybe promising yet.

  • I'm done buying the "hype" on Oglesby until he starts to consistantly drain his wide open deep shots when it counts. All I keep hearing is how he is such a pure shooter with a natural stoke...in practice. In basketball the expectations for kids are excellerated, so no excuses about him being only a soph. This is the time for him to step it up. We will definitely need those consistant counter 'daggers' this season, especially once we start to face schools who live from the perimeter and they get hot.

  • Watched the whole game. Cold shooting and too many turnovers in the 1st half. Poor perimeter defense throughout. Better in the 2nd half.
