We all have our opinions, there is no way it was all bad luck, I just dont believe that. I know the character issues had nothing to do with him though. I just think it was time for a change

    Understood. cheers

Gold medals aren't really made of gold. They're made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts.

  • Todd and Brad- you guys are so cute.

I'm sure bad luck had something to do with the RBs for sure. Plenty of injuries, right? But for the character part, well, maybe a portion of those cases could be different if there's a different coach that could have different relationships with the players. I don't know Erb and the whole story. Just saying.

But I'm good with the changes. Hope they bring someone young in for the RB slot though. And I hope people don't expect way better results right away. (Just watch the lowlights of last year's games =)

In general, if a kid is a bad apple when he arrives on campus, there's a good chance he'll have some bumps in the road during his career. Sometimes it's possible for a position coach to change that, but a lot of times it isn't. Also, he must have done something right to constantly have the "next man up" ready to play without a major dropoff, when most coaches didn't have to deal with anything close to that.

As you said, the ideal situation would be for these staff changes to shake things up enough to get the program back on track. But I just don't think it's fair to put all the blame for the problems at running back on Erb.

That's a good move for him. The CFL gets its fair share of quality receivers, so he'll be coaching some really good players. And with it being Hawkins' first year with Montreal, Campbell ought to have at least two years worth of stability there if he chooses to stay.

  • Hawkins always seemed like a loose cannon to me.

Im shocked to see Campbell in the CFL. I would think with his resume and recruiting skills he would have landed a job. I know, I know, he probably passed on some ncaa jobs.

In terms of prestige, it's probably a step back from being at Iowa. But in terms of quality of life, this could be a good move for him. He likely isn't making as much, but he still might be making a pretty good salary. Additionally, he won't have any recruiting responsibilities, so he can just focus on actually coaching for the first time in a long time. And when it comes to the offseason, he'll have a lot more time off than he would at the college level. A lot of coaches prefer the pro level to the college level for that reason.

  • I always heard that Campbell's steady gf didnt like the move to IC.

Then i heard that Campbell wasnt putting in the hours these last couple years.

Who knows. It just strikes me as odd. Im sure Montreal is a nice city. Its huge, legal pot, free healthcare, less work, but WAY less money. You pay huge taxes and your american money is worth squat.

Sure cements the rumor that KF fired him.

  • Sounds like a good move for Campbell. Montreal is a beautiful city, and as Todd pointed out, more free time and less responsibility than at the college level.

Also, the move for free healthcare is worth it. Yes, people may pay a bit higher in taxes, but it's better than our system of paying for insurance, then having to pay a co-pay, then having to pay a deductible, then still getting denied some coverage. I've actually lived in and had universal healthcare and it was wonderful (not the negative propaganda the US government wants all to believe).

But, back to Campbell, it's whatever makes a person happy. Who knows if he was fired, or just wanted to move on. But, good for him.

    Wut wut?

If Campbell was coaching at Iowa he gets free health care, the job comes with insurance. Also Canada doesn't have that great of a health care, it only ranks 8 positions above the US. He'll be paying more in taxes vs what he would have been paying in for work insurance not to mention he would've been seen in a renowned hospital.

Unless he wanted to work less while taking a pay cut, it's a bad move. CFL coaches make diddly on top of that its taxed like crazy.

  • Guys, let's not let this thread derail into a discussion of health care or anything along those lines.
