  • Very, very interesting if this in fact comes to pass. Maryland would be a great addition for basketball. For football, the Terps have had some awful luck this year, but I think Edsall can turn them around. Rutgers could probably have a shot to be a middle of the pack B1G team in football if they can continue to recruit as they have been. Recruiting wise, this would really open up the east coast even more to schools like Iowa.

  • I should add that in general, I'm not in favor of any further expansion. I honestly think 12 teams is already too many, but that ship has sailed. I hate when conference teams don't play each other for several years, and adding two more teams will only make it worse. My previous post was just pointing out some of the positives of this potential move.

    I agree with this 100%.

As for Edsall turning around Maryland, that actually might be easier in the B10....just kidding, kind of.

    My thoughts exactly.

They want to get that east coast market at any costs. I was hoping for Pitt in the mix. Do Maryland and Rutgers have medical programs?

I'm not sure about medical programs, but they're both AAU schools, which is something Nebraska no longer has (I think).

  • The only postive I see is by add Rutgers you finally tap into that NJ/NY market. That's a lot of TV money to be earned. Still to me it's ND or bust

What's this do to Iowa recruiting: Do they come to Iowa now cause the BTN will play their games or do they stay home cause the conference prestige

This. 12 to me is about perfect if you expand to a 9 game conference schedule so you only go 2 years without playing some teams. 14 or 16 is dumb. Might as well be 2 separate conferences at that point.

He ran a ton of players off too. Kind of made their own bed there. I lost count but at one point they were at 25 transfers since January '11.

I'm with ya, but that's fairly common any time a new coach takes over. Losing your top three quarterbacks to injury all in one season is pretty much unheard of.

  • 25 seems like a lot, but you probably have a better feel for it than me. Especially when one of those transfers was Danny O'Brien, for better or worse, a guy who played significant time at QB the previous 2 years.

Terp fans I know aren't very happy anyway.

But hey...noted NBA heckler Robin Ficker is a huge UMD wrestling fan. So there's that.

If that's the number, I agree that it's a lot. Just meant that their situation at quarterback makes it nearly impossible to win, unless the rest of the team is absolutely stacked. And he wouldn't have gotten the job if the roster was stacked.

  • Any thoughts on how the new division alignments would play out?

Hope they do the right thing and move Wisconsin over to the Legends, but something tells me we'll get stuck with Illinois.

  • Wish we had Illinois this year.

On top of that we don't play Illinois for 6 seasons. That's crazy as they are a border state.

That's the main reason I don't even like a 12 team conference. You should be playing everyone on a regular basis. Unfortunately, this is the current reality of college sports.

  • We could do away with legends and leaders and just do a true east/west.

Terrapin Times reporting it's done...Maryland to the Big 10.

The Terrapin Times is a pay site...so who knows it it's true or not, I'm waiting for confirmation, but it seems as if this is the beginning of the end.

I agree...and I think they should do away with the 2 years/4 years on, 2 years/4 years off model....just getting to play a conference member at least every other year should be the primary importance.

Rutgers said they'd join if Maryland joins first. So we get two new members.

I say it's time for a conference realignment. Give us Wisconsin and Illinois, they can keep those two guys.

Pretty lame we won't play teams like PSU that consistently anymore.
