Decision coming soon for Edwards? Scroll down for latest update

  • OhioHawk07 said...

    Reportedly the message was this...

Iowa said if Edwards “didn’t choose Iowa by now, he wasn’t coming,” according to Stan Edwards.

How censored stupid of a reason...

Not dumb if you ask me and as I said in my original post, he was taking too long.

How do we know if he was going to announce soon? Has he announce yet? I felt like he was slow playing us for his dream Bama/LSU/ND offer.

I know you think the world of him, but just look at his offer list. We weren't exactly fighting world beaters for this kid. I also don't think he would've been happy at Iowa with the log jam we have. In fact I'm sure he would've been pist after Iowa tells him to move to slot.

His senior season was done. He visited all the schools. He talked to all the coaches. We were in on him early. He had a personal relationship with Soup. Sorry, there was no need to take this long, let alone need a in-home visit. Sh** or get off the pot.

It's crazy to say this but RB isn't a priority. We have much bigger needs. DE, WR, OLB, S, CB, OT are higher on board. I liked Berkley but we have like two scholarships open and we don't have time to waste on kid that could easily be swayed before signing day.

I agree with you that other positions are more of a priority at this point than running back is.

That being said, his season just ended about three weeks ago, there's plenty of time between now and Signing Day, and there are a lot of variables at play right now. Iowa is in the middle of its worst season in a long time. I think it's reasonable for a recruit to make sure the entire coaching staff will be returning, especially when he would have found out either way in the near future (likely by next week). Cal's coaching situation was/is obviously fluid as well, and then there's the issue that recently popped up at Minnesota. In-home visits happen all the time, and that would have given him a chance to ask any remaining questions he had. I don't think that's unreasonable at all for him to take another week or two.

I'm not saying this is necessarily a bad move by Iowa. If the coaches decided that running back is no longer a priority, or if another back moved ahead of Edwards on the board, then it makes sense. But if it's just because Iowa thinks he was taking too long, then I do think it was a bad move.

I have to believe that Iowa feels alright with the backs currently on the roster and are really going to hit its 2014 RB recruits, like Jones, Wilbon and hopefully Jackson hard. I, like most people, think Edwards will be a pretty good back and offers what Iowa needs most, speed. However, I dont think Iowa should spend anymore time or resources on him. With other needs, especially DE, and only a few remaining scholarships, it was time for Edwards to make a choice or move on. Mr Edwards knew this was a possibility and even said last month that he realizes teams can't wait forever, and knew that the offer could be lifted.

Like FU said, there aren't a lot of teams that feel he's even worthy of an offer, so not a huge loss. Plus, if he happened to receive a "better" offer before NSD, you can best believe he would take it. Overall, it just seemed like too much time and resources had been spent on a back that might not be worth the effort. However, I understand the frustration by those who feel that he is a legit back, because I am still upset that Iowa didn't let David Smith commit last year!

By this reasoning FU, every offer we have out needs to be rescinded then, cuz they're taking just as long taking that sh**. But at least he was showing genuine interest. Who else is showing that much interest in us these days? A committed OLB from another Big Ten school? Nice

Oh there was no guarantee he'd be announcing today, tomorrow or next week or next month. He and his family were being as thorough as can be. Its not hard to figure out why, its the most important decision up to this point in his life. Of course, instead of letting Cal firing their coach, and that drama at Minnesota play out, we just pull our offer. Poor kid didn't even get a chance to say yes. Maybe this is a Cyrus hangover? Who knows.

And sorry, but to me, RB is a huge priority. I've said it before and I'll say it again, 1/2 of our RB roster is pretty much CRAP. Hell, 1/3 of our overall roster is pretty much crap. And the only log jam we have is the one that KF creates by insisting on playing an upperclassmen.

As for your assertion that we have "more pressing needs"...why did we take 2 TE's in this class...we have a GLUTTONY of TE's...none of whom are a SR...and if CJF doesn't bolt to the NFL, that means we will have 8 TE's and 4 FB's on the roster next year. Not a lot of speed there. We'll have 13 or 14 WR's on next year's roster, so how pressing is that need? Took 2 S's last year, got 2 this year, and we have 3 underclassmen...how pressing is that need? And I seriously doubt OT is a pressing need...near as I can tell we have no offers out to an OT in 2013 that's still considering us. OLB? Everyone will be returning and we already have two pretty good ones in the class, and now maybe a 3rd?. So not that pressing either. That just leaves DE. We lost our best DE recruit in quite some time, IMO...and we don't have any offers out to anyone who is seriously considering us. That leaves some scrub who no one is recruiting will end up filling that spot...nice. Or worse yet, some MAC level DB just to keep our last prized recruit.

Personally, I think its nice that Coach Ferentz and his staff can develop players, but I am sick and tired of these pet projects that take years to get anything out of. Its the reason our season is the way it is.

You of all people FU should see the value in NOT HAVING TO REDSHIRT a player, being a Tide fan.

  • With Jerry Kill's health concerns is there a chance that he retires this year? It could be a life or death decision. Soup Campbell has coached in the B1G for 20some years now. Would he be a candidate 'way up north there'?
