    Darrell Wilson Named Secondary Coach

Darrell Wilson, who spent the last 11 seasons at Iowa, has been named the defensive secondary coach at Rutgers, head coach Kyle Flood announced Wednesday. He previously served as the running backs coach for the Scarlet Knights in 1999.

1.) Wow that's pretty rude to recruits that just signed their LOI
2.) Crazy that he's going from 1 big ten team to another
3.) [insert name here] for candidates of replacement

No. It was a rumor but everybody was saying Erb not Wilson.

Does make sense if you look at who recently interviewed from VA. So it could be an upgrade since he was a hell of a recruiter for VA

Yup and i still expect Erb gone as well. I like Reid and I really hope they land him, maybe co D coordinator and Db coach, he is a good recruiter and has strong east and south east tie for recruiting. then Kennedy for w.r coach and Earnest Wilson running back coach

The jobs posting on the UIs web site has been extended a 3rd time, so at some point it will all be known.

    What Brad said..........

It is rather interesting that Wilson going to another BIG school.

  • Don't like it. He's been a very good coach for us the last 11 years, I'm wondering if there's some sort of internal issues going on with the staff and it seems like all the coaches leaving may be guys who may not like the direction the team is heading in.

Or the coach didnt like the way the coaches were coaching,or maybe Iowa wanted change,or the coaches wanted change. It is all speculation and we will never know. All I know is Wilson leaving bothers me little to none, if Erb is in fact gone I personally wanted him gone a long time ago. Soup even though I liked him a lot, didn't produce or pull in any big time commits like I thought he would and it has been said he was let go, not the other way around by several different sites, and maybe Soups coaching style doesnt match the offense Davis wants to run. And then on the flip side when you can't get rid of the Chief then get rid of his Indians to see if that helps.

Depending on who they hire I am not upset with anything yet. And we all wanted change and here it is. I just hope you are not right Der because I can't stand the thought of this team tanking until Kirk either gets bought out or leaves and both of those options are not going to happen any time soon.

  • Boy, losing guys that were doing a good job of recruiting Mich and the Jersey/Md areas. Hope the new guys can recruit (and text =). Would this affect the rapport with future African-American recruits?

And as for going to an another BIG school, he was at Wisconsin before coming to Iowa (and it's not like we'll play Rutgers often). (He's a flexible coach- LB, DB, RB, WR, ST) Thanks for your time and effort coach.

  • Dang. Report that they think Erb and Morgan will be gone by weeks end. Losing Reese Morgan would be a huge mistake, imo. Especially since he helped land Ross P. and Jay Scheel. I think that is a bad move. Don't understand why they asked Wilson to move to RB. I thought he was a good recruiter and did a decent job with the secondary, especially cornerbacks. Not sure what to think about this massive shake-up. It used to be Iowa's pitch that all the staff had been there for a long time. Now it's basically just kirk and Phil Parker if Morgan and Erb leave too.

  • Morehouse was asked about Morgan tonight on Twitter. He said he had heard nothing about him leaving.

  • If I was KF I wouldve fired the whole staff after last year. Maybe keep Doyle.

Morgan has coached oline since day 1 and last year we move him to DL so Brian Ferentz can join the staff. He has coached a long time and should be ready for retirement.

  • I have read on several different places about Reese leaving and i hope it is not true, he is a very good recruiter and it could hurt our chances with Ross (they are close) All of the rest I don't care really. I hope is is more for a change than it is the coaches leaving because they see the writing on the wall.

  • It's interesting to see/hear the reactions from the fans about the changes. There's no general consensus one way or another with the coaches leaving (and plus Reese). I think normally fans should be happy that changes are being made after a 4-8 season but... I guess it's strange to have KF to make this many changes in two season and people don't know how to react. =)

Personally, I still have faith in Kirk. I like all of the coaches that are leaving. I would be happier if the change was at OC. Now, we're stuck for a while with him since Iowa is hiring his old help. But hoping that would boost in production on the O side. Can't do any worse, right?

I would expect Reese to stay at DL. Parker to go back to DB but will be co-DC with Reid. (I guess too late to bring Diaco, right. He's waiting to be a HC now.) and Erb?

    ThaiHawk

  • I know no one cares, but let me weigh in with my opinions here.

I expect Morgan to coach at Iowa until he retires. He is a good fit with Kirk and is as complete a team player as any coach on the staff. The loss of Erb may work out to be a major plus. Our Running backs have had a bad track record in terms of health and mental strength. Maybe Erb deserves some of the blame for the AIRHG. I like the job that Darrel Wilson did and he will be missed. But I think there are capable replacements available so we should be ok in the end. I liked Coach Cam[bell. But, bottom line, he did not seem to produce a receiving corps that could hold on to the tough catch. In point of fact, they seemed to develop a bad case of droppsies the last two seasons, which contributed to Vandey's terrible season last year.

I like what I read about Read. I expect he will be a net plus to the staff. Hernandez looks like a winner as well. Like ThaiHawk said, "Personally, I still have faith in Kirk. I like all of the coaches that are leaving." I am not yet Pro or Anti Greg Davis. I know I will be clearer after the coming season after we see what he does with a QB that is a product of Davis's coaching for a couple seasons. If the Davis protege leads us back to sight of the promise land, I will once again stand in awe of Kirk's magic.

This is the information I heard as well. I posted earlier that Wilson was going to be moved to RB coach. I still think Erb is going to be out as well.

    FG80

  • So, if Erb is out then, the two guys (along with Wilson) responsible for Sp teams are out. So, who said KF is loyal and stubborn?
And will there be a new name to surface for a RB coach?

Or food for thought. People are moved around to make room for a new coach, and that new coach is vocal about other coaches not working as hard as HE thinks they should be. Might be uncomfortable for some coaches to have a co-worker who may be reporting your every move to the head man. Internal conflict was mentioned during the season, you are now seeing the results of what was heard.
