Top notch post here. Unfortunately, I can't give any suggestions to fix the problem. The midwest/B1G states doesn't breathe and live for football quite like the texas, florida, and the south in general. (Don't get me wrong here we have plenty of talent and passion for football, but the southern states have an abundance of elite talent and only live for football, i.e. look at their dismal basketball teams).
This is a good question Jelly.
The rankings may not be where we want them accross the BIG, but just look at the talent in the NFL from Iowa. Certainly your program is producing top notch players. The BIG is never going to be able to compete with the SEC from top to bottom. The BIG just needs to win the games we are expected to win OOC and have a run of big bowl games to change the perception.

This made me LOL. Ohio State's mods banning people for personal attacks or for swearing? What a damn joke! The few times I've went over to their site I've noticed that they are at least very comparable to tRCMB when it comes to that stuff.

Any way I comment on this subject you will be offended. I'm a huge Buckeye fan and very proud of r program. A lot of fans take that as arrogant and I look at is confident. As a Buckeye fan r success is counted on how strong the Big ten is.So if you look at it through a buckeyes eyes when Iowa has the 55th rated class in the country and many other big ten schools have very low classes it does have and effect on us. We believe every year that we r going to be champions. If the Big Ten is down in recruiting and that will show in wins and loses in bowl games it will reflect on how successful r season is. Week conference will makes us look bad. Bottom line is the Big Ten as a whole needs to bring it up lot.
Good post and good points. Upvoted.
Am I the only one who is starting to think of the SEC as Lance Armstrong? I mean it's starting to get a little crazy. 7 championships in a row or whatever? Sometimes when things seem to good to be true, they are.
I'm confused, you said in your first post "The BIG is the best all-around conference in the country. We have great tradition at all of our member schools and recruiting goes in cycles" and now you say "The BIG is never going to be able to compete with the SEC from top to bottom." Seems a little contradictory.
I think the $EC really is over-hyped and overrated on a massive scale. Obviously what they've done can't be denied, however just look at this past bowl season. If Michigan didn't give up a last second hail mary, they beat a top-10 (IIRC) $EC team, Nebraska also had a very legitimate shot of beating another top-10 team and if they could've gotten just a little more execution out of their players, they very possibly would have won. And to think we were "outmatched" in both of these games from you guys being banned for the year, forcing both schools to move up and face "tougher" schools. At the very top of the $EC in any given year, they are typically better to an extent than top teams in other conferences, but it's not always the runaway honor that the media likes to give them credit for, it's a very top-heavy league and after the top 3 schools (typically Alabama, LSU and a random 3rd), there seems to be a huge drop-off in terms of competitiveness.
You are right that we as a conference need to do a much better job of winning OOC games and performing better in bowl games, and I think that may start with the non-aggressive nature of many recent B1G coaches and still includes Ferentz. To Ferentz's credit, he does have a very good record against the $EC in bowl games, but he and some other coaches need to start playing to win instead of playing not to lose.
This is a fun thread. And how surprised I am that the troll went back on his home site and cried.
One of their posters called Meyer a douche for wanting to teach the B1G coaches how to recruit.
I wrote that was NOT what he said, th

Before you start talking about intelligence, please learn how to type the words "are" and "our" as opposed to "r."
Personally I'm fine with your post as you weren't exactly flaming, but I do get the impression you have a bit of a superiority complex.

You are right and I do have a bit of superiority complex. I'm so confident in our Buckeyes that the confidence comes out that way. But back to the story you would understand a Buckeyes opinion if you try to understand the fan of a Buckeye. If we were to pull a recruiting class outside of the top 20 it wouldn't be acceptable and it shouldn be that way with any Big Ten school.

That's funny. Those guys sure don't like Michigan huh? They think Worly came from there first when this board was created before the Michigan one?
Funny how he went back to his site then they are also thinking he should have been banned.
How about the Irony/hypocrisy of this post:
"Being a buckeye fan gets you banned on almost all of the team sites. I guess the other fan bases are scared."
Everyone else is banned from posting on their site.
Back to recruiting. Did anyone read about the upcoming rules changes with regards to recruiting?
Why go on another team's board and rub in the fact that they finished behind Indiana? Just asking for it at that point.
Thank you for coming here and engaging in a legitimate discussion. Make yourself at home here.
This. What is up with these? I know about the unlimited contact but "Recruiting staffs" what is that about?
I'm going back to our board and I want to wish you luck in the upcoming season. You guys have to much pride and tradition to except anything but the best.
Far superior when compared to the post.
As if Iowa or any other B1G school's recruiting is based on the notion that "we have to make sure that Tosu has a successful season by recruiting harder". We all could give a rats ass about how you useless nuts feel at the at the end of the day. The success of our program isn't predicated on what a bunch of outsiders think of us or the conference we play in. If you need that for some sort of validation, then what does that say about you? Its pretty pathetic. The fact is, you're not superior to us. You may have a better record, a better recruiting class, but when you stop and figure in that your program is habitually in trouble with the NCAA, is under sanctions currently and is only a matter of time, will be again, one has to ask, "how superior do you think you are?" Iowa is one of the very few programs never to have had any sanctions from the NCAA. Iowa's players that get caught smoking dope are suspended indefinitely and basically asked to leave, if not right out told to. While on High St, its no bid deal. Under Coach Meyer, hes proven its only a one game suspension...if that. So take your record, your rankings and your recruiting class and shove them straight up your ass. You haven't won anything the right way since Woody, and I seriously doubt with the arrogant prick you have leading the way, will do so ever again.
Not surprising at all. And I just extended his ban through 2014.
The issue is that most of the B10 schools do not pay assistants, Michigan and Ohio State's top assistants are paid on the same level as SEC top assistants, which makes leaving Michigan or Ohio State and taking a $300,000 pay cut is hard to justify. And it's not just the top assistants, if you show you can recruit and coach they will try to pay you to keep you on baord. The rest of the B10 needs to up their game to stay competitive with what Michigan and Ohio State are doing. I would like nothing better than to see the B10 go undefeated in all their bowl games, but that doesn't come about with standing pat, this is a true scenario of keeping up with the Jones, only in this case the Jones's are the SEC teams and Michigan and Ohio State.
Their is not a more storied conference than the B10. There's no reason that Iowa, MInnesota, Illinois, Northwestern, Purdue, Indiana, should not be in the top 30 year in and year out in recruiting and rankings at the end of the season.
You're more than welcome to stick around and engage in respectful discussion here, as several other OSU fans do frequently. As you can imagine, no site is going to be too fond of a fan from another team making their first post on their board and calling their recruiting class embarrassing. We won't tolerate that, but we do welcome respectful discussion from all fan bases.
I guess it is how you look at it and what fan base you are from. Saying embarrassed is worse than calling someone a "douche". The cold is affecting us all. Lighten up!!
Confused? My comment on not being able to compete with the SEC from top to bottom is only football related. It is a fact that most of the football talent is located in the Southern states. There is no doubt that the BIG is an exceptional conference when you look at the entire picture....academics, research and athletics.
The BIG needs to take a serious look at how we are operating conference wide when it comes to football. The SEC is operating on a different level in terms of recruiting. They pay their coaches, they are ruthless in their approach and they oversign like nobody else. This is a huge advantage that the BIG and other conferences need to address.
