Maybe I'm just too used to the "Dr. Tom" way of Hawkeye basketball, but if I have 10 players who can play (next year, we're potentially looking at 12), I'm running, running and running some more. I was surprised over the course of the season how little we pressed. Its just what you should do when you have a clear depth advantage. The 3/4's is great if your looking to have the opponents use up their shot clock, but just look back at the game @ OSU, we turned that game into helter skelter with the full court press and stormed back into the game.
I agree that Iowa has the depth to press more than it did this year. Two factors in that might have been the youth and inexperience of Gesell and Clemmons, and Gesell's injury. It's possible that Fran wanted to gradually press more and more as the season progressed, but decided not to because Gesell was on the shelf. With that in mind, and so much continuity on the roster heading into next season, I'd be surprised if Iowa doesn't press more next season.
Hey Silver - I'll be around, checking in here and there, to see what's going on, making comments.
Have a great summer. Take care
pressing after the davis model probably would've made olaseni the primary center. at its best, dr. tom's press had a killer shot blocker to back it up.
this year's group created some nice mayhem with half-court traps. this got some nice breakaways for long-armed thieves like white and marble.
Good post right here.
Silver's about right - 11-7 and 5th place, maybe 12-6 and 4th with some breaks.
