Last RPI I checked has Iowa at #80.
ESPN's BPI index has us as a 12 seed and possible play-in game.
There are 2 RPIs out there, I usually go by the one on Rivals. That other RPI is similar.

Hawkeye fans need to be rooting hard for UNI, Iowa State, and it wouldn't hurt if the Hokies would pull off an upset of the Dukies this week. Bottom line continues to be to win the games we should beat Purdue, Nebraska twice, and Illinois at home.
With that we would finish 10-8 and 6th in the 2nd best RPI conference in the country (Mountain West #1 currently) and have a first round B10 game with Neby or Northwestern. That would line us up with most likely Wisconsin which I like as a good opportunity to beat to reach the semis. That scenario would be a lock at 23-11 and wins over Minne, Illinois, and 2 against Wisky. Of course if we lost to Nebraska or Purdue we can start talking about NIT seeding.
Great points about cheering on UNI and Iowa State.
We also should be cheering for Wisconsin, Minnesota and Wichita State to finish strong as well. Their ascension in the RPI rankings will trickle down to Iowa one way or another.
Of course, you're spot on about Iowa taking care of business vs the teams you mentions....do that and I think they will be in regardless of what happens in the BTT. A 6th place 10-8 team with 21 wins overall in America's strongest conference....(don't care what MWC is ranked)....will get an invite. Book it!
Having a real problem with the hi-lighted schools being ranked higher in the RPI than Iowa.
A) their SOS is weaker
B) they reside in much weaker conferences
Don't know where you are getting that the MWC is rated #1 by RPI. All the sites I have checked has the Big Ten still ranked #1 in the RPI.
Which ranking system tends to carry the most weight with the committee? We have seen rankings from the RPI and Sangrin with significant ranking differences ( 82 vs 33). I am not real familiar with the basis for either one and would be interested to know what each uses and why the big differences. Just curious .
eckster, in the past they've always mentioned RPI as a primary tool in gauging a teams dance worthiness.....but the last few years they put a lot more emphasis on the team's last ten games, combined with what they term "quality wins"....(i.e. vs Top 25/50 opponents).
tbh, i have never heard a selection committee member bring up the sagarin rankings...not to say they don't factor it in, just haven't heard anyone outside the media or message board folks talk about it being a factor.
in the end, i suspect its way more about 'politics' than 'measurable metrics'....just a hunch. for example, when a worthy at-large 26 win bubble team from the horizon league gets passed over by a marginal 19 win bubble team from the b1g, so the b1g ends up with 7 teams in the tourney, then you get bet it had something to do with politics
They were talking it up during the Air Force/Colorado State game on Saturday. Apparently the MWC fell back, not sure how conference RPIs can change once conference play starts since they essentially beating themselves or maybe the announcers were just full of it.
Good article on RPI vs other systems and where the Hawks stand in each.
Skip the part about the Lobos RPI that ranks them ahead of every B1G team and the 5th toughest schedule in America despite not playing a team with an RPI greater than 13.
Hawkeyes high in Sagarins, Pomeroys, but just 81st in RPI

84 today. Gotta get up to around 65-70 to make the tourney IMO.
I can only imagine how far we'd have dropped if ISU had lost night.....
Currently watching VT get absolutely dismantled at home to Duke...(by 30 pts)....that loss is killing us worse than anything imo
We lucked out, the Duke pummeling of VT last night didn't drop us any further in the RPI...(still 84)...we did however see our SOS tick down from 110 to 111.
I imagine if VT had pulled off a huge upset last night, it would have had a much greater/positive effect for us.
Oh well, on to Saturday at Lincoln...another must win for this bubble team.
Adding 4 wins will boost it a lot. I'm really not too worried about it right now.
"I was brought in here to change the culture. I'm going to coach with passion" - Fran McCaffery.
That VT game is really hurting us.
Oh well, that's history, need to win them one at a time continuing tomorrow in Lincoln.
not that it matters any more, but we only fell to 90 after the loss
Usually the first thing I look at in the morning is the updated RPI -- did not care to do that today.
I figured as much when I noticed you hadn't bumped this with an update :)
So how many of you guys are gonna bite the bullet and root for ISU against Kansas tomorrow night?
Actually, I be there in person with my very good Cyclone friend enjoying his season seating. See, I can be supportive to the little brother program in IA, lol. Yes, I hated yesterday's loss but my optimistic side says there will be a make up for it in the next four games and B1G tournament run. Go Hawks!
I have been pulling for them ever since we beat them. However, now that we are past the point of hoping for a decent RPI...(yesterday sealed our fate for that)....and must now pretty much either finish 4-0 with a miracle win in Bloomington, or, a miracle run in the BTT championship to get in...I will decline from any further cheering fro lil brother.
I have nothing against ISU and I will pull for them anytime over Kansas.
Whaddaya know, VT finally wins a game (over 14-13 Florida State).
