Well, connie's win over Michigan should trickle down to us and help, so if ISU knocks off KSU today ...(along with a Hawkeye victory)....we could easily find ourselves elevated from our current 98 back up into the mid-80s by tomorrow
ISU couldn't hold up it's end of the tri-fecta....so probably only looking at a slight bump to 93-94
Going into Sunday, it's No. 89.
The heck with everyone else, just win out at this point.
I was just coming on to post that, 89 is pretty good....just think where we would be if ISU had knocked off KSU! I bet we'd have cracked the 70s.
I predict a 5-2 finish, and they'll need a nice run in the BTT to have legit shot at the NCAA. This Thurs at 0-11 PSU will be telling. The Nitts will probably view this game as very winnable and one of their few remaining chances to get a W in conference play. The Hawks better not come out and think they can simply out-talent them. A loss out there would pretty much be the nail in Iowa's NCAA coffin.
Penn State is due for a conference win and our road record sux, two things not in our favor already.
We need this road win.
I know it doesn't mean much, but ESPN has a "BPI" ranking. They show NCAA Tournament information and have Iowa at 52. They also have Iowa as "In-Projected At Large." Updated today (2/10) at 4pm.
Check out the latest NCAA college basketball BPI rankings.
"I was brought in here to change the culture. I'm going to coach with passion" - Fran McCaffery.
We clearly can get in as long as we win the games we'll be favored in....which should be 5 of the last 7. Avenging our loss in Minneapolis and winning 6 of the last 7 would pretty much guarantee an invite.
Also notice that we are the very last at-large projection. Now that's really on the bubble.
Yeah but IL is trying to steal IA's spot with wins of IND and MN this week... Also they got Butler and Gonzaga earlier in nonconference wins. IA need to win against IL and at least win 7/8 to win the bubble argument if IL wins enough BTN games at the end of the conference. In addition to a couple of wins in the BTN tournament. I think IA may end up playing MN or IL as a first round BTN tournament match up.
Starting a new week at No. 92.
After last night's action we are now No. 89.
A loss last night, in which we tried several times to give it away, would have put us well over 100, and ended the season.
Read this earlier this morning:
New Mexico and Air Force are the only clubs in NCAA history to ‘earn’ at-large bids despite sporting an RPI of 70-plus.
If Iowa finishes 5-1 with the lone loss coming to IU, the RPI should be mid 60s. Take care of business and I'm not too worried about it.
On the flip side, we could probably get in by going 3-3 in our final six...just as long as those 3 wins are vs IU, Mn and Ill.
Sagarin No. 39, RPI No. 90. What a difference.
All that action yesterday and we're back at No. 92.
No more room for error this season.
Back to 92..... CAN NOT emphasize enough how HUGE a win today is for the Hawkeyes.
On a side note, UNI is doing it's part to help offset our loss to VT....they are on a roll right now...keep it up Panthers.
Heard an interview on the radio last week with one of the selection committee members. One thing that he and others look at is how well (winning) each team does on the road, since virtually every game played in the NCAA tourney is essentially a road game. I found that an interesting consideration.
Doesn't surprise me, but I still find it hard to believe that any team finishing at least .500 in the toughest conference in America...(and with 20+ wins overall)....would be left out of the Dance.
Minn was No. 13 going into CHA today, and with Wis destroying OSU, we should get a nice boost in the rankings.
Also need to pull for NW (as we have beat them twice) over Illinois tonight.
Before today's game, Sagarin had Minn No. 15 and Iowa No. 39.

I'm curious where do you guys get IA's RPI? This website has IA's present RPI favorably at #78:
And a quick story on IA's rise back on the bubble consideration story:
Here you go. It's updated daily.
Love how these bloggers and national media types are starting to repeat exactly what we've all been posting on here for the past month
that site dropped us to #80 after our win today...
RPI No. 82 today, and Sagarin all the way up to No. 33.
Long way to go and little room for error.
