Todd's been saying for a while now that its looking like 3 spots left for Iowa's 2013 class. Maybe 4 if they are making room for a guy like Veii or Spearman. This is how I see those final spots being filled:
OLB Josey Jewell
DE/OLB Reggie Spearman
WR Anjeus Jones
I think this would be a solid way to end the class. A little disappointed with the lack of a true slot receiver with Lemelle and Smith off the board, but Anjeus Jones is a very good consolation prize at receiver IMO. Thoughts?
if that happens fish, the class will end up being ranked 50-55 on 247 ...(probably 56+ on Rivals/ESPN/etc)... not what you want or need coming off a 4-8 season.
It won't be rated very highly due to the lack of star power but I think pretty much everyone in this class is a good, solid player and while its lacking in superstars, I don't think there were many, if any reaches in this class.
That is ALWAYS the case.....but how many teams compete for conference championships and BCS bowls with classes constructed of only "good/solid" players and no superstars???
I agree, and that's why 2014 is such a big class for Iowa. It has the potential to be REALLY good and has already started out as such. If the 2014 class fizzles, though, I think the Hawks will be in long term trouble.
Gold medals aren't really made of gold. They're made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts.
Total crapshoot guess: Spearman, Veii, and Spirit Lake's Cody Poock, who could play FB or LB (he'd be this year's Nate Meier as a completely off-the-radar pickup).
Not being negative but the class is going to end in a whimper, not in a bang.
I'd be happy if we can land Spearman but I don't think we will and I'm afraid we are going to offer a bunch of late George Kittles for positions of need.
I'm hoping we don't do late offers and roll them over into positions of need for the 2014 boys & JUCOs
Spearman, Jewel and one of the speedy under-rated WR from Texas.
2 for 2 with 3 to go!
Upvote for that!
To be fair, those were the easier two. I'm pretty confident that Parker will flip as well, but I'm much less confident about Spearman committing to Iowa or Jewell even getting an offer.
Sounds like Jewell commited
Jumper you are on a roll! What you got in that crystal ball for Feb. 2014?
