Hyde and Ferentz? I'm guessing Hyde gets an invite for sure. Hopefully Ferentz too. Man what I wouldn't give for Ferentz to end up with The Cowboys next year. Anyone else I'm forgetting? That would be pretty sad if Iowa didn't get one player there.
It'll be interesting to see how it plays out. Hyde is probably a lock. They'll often invite some late round and/or possibly undrafted guys to the Senior Bowl, so guys like Ferentz, Vandenberg, Keenan Davis and Bigach could possibly be in play as well. If not, those guys will likely have a shot to play in one of the other games.
You know I was just thinking Ferentz has been playing so well of course he will get a shot at the NFL. But doesn't he looks a little small to play at the next level? It's another level going against Vince Wilfork and BJ Raji type players. Those are some big dudes. I hope he gets a shot and takes of advantage of it. I think he has had a hell of a year/career.
He's a tough kid, and while he's undersized, I'd be very surprised if he isn't in camp with someone in late July. Same with all of those other guys - Davis, Vandenberg and Bigach. If they pursue it, they'll get a shot somewhere.
Vandenberg will get a shot with someone.....as a tackling dummy. I just don't see it with James. He might make a practice squad I guess. but doubtful.
I think Ferentz, Davis and Bigach all make practice squads next year and Hyde will make a 53 man roster. Has tons of speed, good instincts and can help on special teams.
Regarding Vandenberg, I realize a lot of posters here aren't too high on him, but I don't think there are enough quarterbacks entering the draft that are better passers than him that he won't get a look. I'd be very, very surprised if he isn't at least in camp with someone, and I think he's got a good shot of sticking.
Based on what?
His body of work at Iowa. There aren't a ton of competent passers out there entering the draft every year. I'm not saying he'll be a first round pick, but I do think he's a legit 7th rounder or quality UFA. He's got the arm, the release and the accuracy to stick in the league as a solid backup in the right system. If he lands with the right team, I think he's got a realistic shot of making the roster.
I was under the impression that JVB was attending Med School next Fall and is done with football. Then again I did hear the announcer Friday say that JVB had an "NFL arm". man the whole bar I was watching the game at busted out laughing at that comment. I would like to say that his football IQ would make up for his lack of touch, but his read on that 4th quarter game ending blitz against Nebraska really summed him up. Long story short I dont think JVB makes a roster and honestly dont think he will even try. I would take any of the 3 ISU qbs over JVB.

Vandendoom may have the physical tools to play in the NFL but his football IQ, field vision, toughness/mental toughness, etc. is way below even some of the worst NFL QB's. This may be the first and last time I compliment Tim Tebow on anything, but one thing I can say about him is that while he may not always be capable of getting the ball on target to a WR, he can at least usually identify where to throw the ball, something I cannot say about Vandendoom. Part of this has to do with the system, part has to do with coaching, but a lot also has to fall on him.
Sine Missione -- Never be a spectator for unfairness or stupidity, argue for arguments sake; the grave will give plenty of time for silence.
I guess I'm just not seeing the accuracy that would allow him to stick in the league.
Well it sucks that we have to talk about this instead of a upcoming bowl game.
I think most of Vandenberg's struggles this season can be attributed to the lack of talent around him and the play calling. He obviously wasn't perfect himself, but I do think he's much better than a lot of people give him credit for. We can agree to disagree on that.
You left out...new offensive system, reads, terminology...
Those likely played a role as well - you're right.
