Gold medals aren't really made of gold. They're made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts.
Purdue did everything in their power to give Iowa that game. Disappointing.
I'm not even mad or surprised for that matter.
But who would've thought that we finish 4-8?
You are what your record says you are.
Ferentz needs to take the headphones off on gameday.
Offensively. The Oline played terrible, injuries could used as an excuse but I've been pretty high on our Oline 2depth and expect more.
JVB had some good plays but overall he still was part of a reoccurring problem. 3rd downs was a huge issue for him: 1.) He throws to the under route. I wouldn't complain if it didn't happen more often than not. 2.) Throws to a crossing route that was guarded. Typical poor choice Vandy that reflects his locking on to the WR problem 3.) It's a long third down, JVB rolls out like he's a dual threat and gets sack for -3 instead of stepping into the pocket.
Defensively it was a horrible. Giving up over 400 yards to Purdue? I'd say easily 100 of those yards was due to people making a hit with out wrapping up.
Coaches: between the turnovers and the penalties there is no excuse for this loss. We didn't blitz again thus allowing Marve to have all day back there. Offensive play calling in the first half was very sketchy. I'm in the crowd that thinks we should've punted it with our QB on that last possession. It's a toss up call but they way our D has been playing on the long play and the way our O has played in the short feild, I think we win in OT.
I'm not mad, nor am I going to argue any of these points. I just find this game to be a summary of season. A day late and a dollar short.
I'm sorry, but I see what them Texas fans were saying about Greg Davis....obviously I have been critical of his horizontal play calling before, but on 4th and 3, we go from a 4 receiver set, to a timeout...and out of that timeout, we get a 2 receiver, I-formation set and throw a zero yard pass to the 2nd string TE out in the flat?
Talk about NOT giving yourself a chance.
Good post, agreed all around.
One issue is there is very little talent behind the starters. O-linemen get hurt and nobody can fill in and even come close to producing like the injured starter did.
No backup QB was developed or prepared to come in for a struggling Vandenberg ALL season.
I would say there's talent but not necessarily experience behind the o line starters. Both Walsh and Blythe are RS freshmen who will be really good in a year or two.
4-8 ...and the last two games will not only be L's, they could get very ugly.
Ferentz has no business with headsets on during a game...absolutely none.
Both coordinators need to be fired the very second the season is over.
This team has rarely been the most talented on the field, but we've always played sound fundamental football...that was not the case today and it has been getting steadily worse throughout the year.
Heads should roll over a 4-8 season...but I won't hold my breath.
Unbelievable play, just unbelievable. The most crucial play of the game, you have a 4th and 3, and you throw to the receiver who is running an out-route 2-3 yards BEFORE the 1st-down marker. I generally avoid criticizing play calling, since it's generally 20-20 hindsight logic, but, in my mind, in this situation, NO player should be running a timing route short of the first down. This is perhaps the single worst play call I have seen in the Ferentz era, AND, it came after a T.O.?!?!?! Incredible.
By far the most disappointing aspect of this game is that one of the worst teams in our conference, playing on our home field, did everything short of gift-wrapping this game to us, and this pathetic squad and coaches still found a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. I expected this to be an off year, particularly early with all the new faces, but I didn't expect this level of incompetence across the board in November. Mind-boggling lack of inspiration, desire, execution, athleticism, decision-making and talent.
I'm going for a run now, wearing one of my several Iowa sweatshirts, and, as I type it's already turned inside-out.
All year long, Greg Davis chose not to include Zach Derby in his offense..........hardly throwing to him at all.
Then, today, he is the #1 target on the field. Go f****N figure.
Why in the *** don't you keep Derby and Fiedorwicz on the field the majority of the time and play those kids in spot situations, only?
'Texan by birth, Hawkeye by the Grace of God'
Chill..........BB Monday night.
BB? 2ndary sport
Just from today's game, Derby's hands are much better then CJ's. Kind of surprised we haven't seen more of him this year (maybe we have and I'm just stupid).
Believe that Derby is a better blocker than either of the 2 young guys and he does have decent hands and more
experience,............so why was he not used until today? And then he is #1 target?
I don't rant or vent, I only tell the truth.
Iowa sucks in Football this year.
At least we hit rock bottom--according to Bryce Miller.

Again, I don't know why Iowa hasn't used the TE more often this year. CJ is huge, and unless he really has stone-hands or something, I would think he would be a great security blanket for Vandenberg.
Also, I forgot Derby was even on the team this year until today. Woops
The truth beckons
Well,....... and if Bryce Miler of the Does Moan cyclone/husker Register says so, then it is definitely gospel............to some, apparently.
But pretty much anything in that rag, sure the hE** does not mean Jack Squat to me.
Have a nice weekend.

We didn't suck till Weisman took a helmet to the ankle at the end of the MSU game, and our two biggest, and I say best OL, at the beginning of the PSU game.
Just gotta keep things in the proper perspective. They stink, not suck, but there is a ton of young talent on this team, and despite next year's seemingly "daunting" schedule, we will have a better record and a better year, if the coaches let us.
We lost to CMU with Weisman.
I can't believe that I am actually looking forward to basketball season...
