Montell Marion - Live Interview on AM1460 KXNO http://www.iheart.com/live/921/?autoplay=true
Says he is still planning were he will train for Rio 2016. Sounded like he plans to enter Midlands this year. Helpin out a little bit at Grandview now. “incident was completely fabricated” claimed that Marion had picked her up and slammed her into the fireplace in his home.

OPen Practice observations for 10/20/12
Per Schwick on HR
"I just got back from practice. All the coaches except for LL were there. Metcalf, Dennis, Keddy and Erekson were there. Black, Baker, Marlin and Sorensen were there (not positive about the last two).
I tried to watch as many matchups as possible, so I'm sure some of what I saw was not indicative of the entire practice. The matchup I watched the most was Clark and Gilman. Clark definitely seemed to have the advantage. He had back points twice that I saw. Gilman looks really small. Dennis and Ramos were matched up for a good portion of the practice. Lots of action as expected. Dennis seemed to get all the takedowns. McD was on the bike or other machines on the sideline the whole practice. Evens was matched with Klapprodt and was dominating. Meyer and Lira was a good matchup. Both got takedowns on the other. Meyer seems really big for 174. He looked bigger than Gambrall to me. Gambrall was going against Fahler and had the advantage. Fahler looked bigger than Gambrall as well. Brooks was going with Burak. Didn't see much of their matchup. Backes was over with them most of the practice. Telford was wrestling Erekson most of the practice. Telford made Erekson look kind of short and stocky. Erekson is wider in the shoulders. I'm not sure which of them was bigger. Erekson let Bess (I believe) work with Telford at the end of practice. Definitely some domination there. I believe both of the new Hwt's were there. I believe Bess was matched with Haug and Green was working out on the side. Ballweg was wrestling Carton I believe. Skon and Ryan were matched up. Skon was having the better of the little I saw. Kelly was going against Rhoads and had the better of it. They had to be broken up at the end of practice. Kelly was yelling and they were both pushing. * was working Moore over, literally and figuratively. Dziewa was there, but I don't remember whom he wrestled. I believe Metcalf was working with Kadel, but I didn't watch them.
Lots of fans there. The bleachers were mostly full. Seemed like a tough practice. I noticed more people getting turned today than I remember from previous years. That's all I have. Not a lot of detail, but hopefully better than nothing."
Per Gobbin on HR:
"-Luke Lofthouse was indeed there.
-Clark dominated Gilman. Terry spent the whole practice right on top of them.
-Dennis and Ramos matched up all day. Not a single TD for Tony.
-Brooks and Burak got after it with Brooks winning 75% of the goes.
-Gambrall weighs 177lbs and feels fantastic.
-Morningstar beat on Moore like he was a high schooler. Moore is lazy.
-I felt sorry for Bess. Telford was literally throwing him around like a rag doll.
-Lofthouse and Keddy scraped pretty good. Tom spends a lot of extra time with Ethen.
-Dweiza looks like he's just going through the motions.
-DSJ was hosting Sorensen, but not at practice because he had a wedding to attend.
-Mike Kelly is meaner than ever. No fun being paired up with him. I don't care who it is.
-The Blacks were at practice and were shown lots of love.
-The guys that stood out the most today as far as getting every ounce out of practice were Clark, Skon, Ballweg, Kelly, Evans, Gambrall, and Telford. If I had to pick just one, I'd say it's a toss up between Clark and Skonezney.
-Team dinner with the recruits at the Brands casa this evening.
-I'm sure I'm forgetting something..."

Great read Fu thanks
Gold medals aren't really made of gold. They're made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts.
Has anyone ever just attended a practice? Brands said on the On Iowa show the other day that all practices are open to the public and people should just watch out for headgear flying around.
I havent but nice to know that they are open. I know people go on saturdays instead of tailgating.
I have not but a buddy of mine who coached at Davenport Assumption would go religiously on Saturdays and he wasn't even a hawkeye fan... He'd tell me that Brands is worth the go everytime.
One story was Brands was riding Metcalf hard all day, said he wasn't pushing his buttons verbally but just screwing him and getting him pist all practice. Than he had a wrestle off and the guy Metcalf was wrestling against shot and took down Matcalf (probably cause he was so frustrated) and the second Bret was about to escape Tom called time and said it was time for a team water break. Needless to say Bret freaked out threw his head gear, said a bunch of cuss words and let Brands knew he thought it was BS that he had more time and wanted revenge...... Tom walked over to the crowd that was watching with a big smile and said he didn't mean all that and he'd be dealt with while giving them a wink. Water break gets over and the team was about to start in a drill and Metcalf was going to join like nothing happen. Brands called Bret out saying "Nope Bret for acting like a child you gotta go to the corner and sit in time out"... Bret is just fuming pist and he throws his head gear before sitting down.......... The funniest part about this story is my buddy looks over at Bret while he's just freaking out internally (yet its showing) he said there was a big sign by the spot that he was sitting that he didn't see earlier that read TIMEOUT
Lets call Metcalf Brent from now on.

Per queso from cyclonereport:
NCAA DUALS WAS SHOT DOWN BY 3 VOTES. ALL D1 COACHES HAD VOTED 6 TIMES TO COME UP WITH THE OUTCOME. APPEARS NOT ALL COACHES WERE ON BOARD. NEEDED 2/3 MAJORITY.
IS THIS GOOD FOR THE SPORT? FOR WRESTLING?
Queso also states: Illinois and tO$U are front runners for Black FWIW
I didnt like that thought anyway.
i think a dual championship can be done - but must be done after the legacy tourney.
2 weeks after - with top 8 teams from the legacy. why not two NCs for the one sport (hence the dual)?
current plan (as i understand) is to do this mid-way through the season with predetermined teams based on the year before. or worse yet - some stupid qualifier tourney(s) mid-season that perturbs the entire season. it can be done, and must be done! Made for TV!
Wrestling owns the Olympics
per alas96 from HI:
In the preseason coaches poll MN starts on top. Intriguing.
Below is the top 10 and then all Big10 schools in the top 25.
USA Today/NWCA/AWN Division I Coaches Poll
1 Minnesota (7) 397 14-3
2 Penn State (3) 392 13-1
3 Oklahoma State 372 17-2
4 Iowa 371 14-4
5 Ohio State 359 13-4
6 Illinois 352 16-4
7 (tie) Cornell 328 11-1
7 (tie) Missouri 328 13-4
9 Nebraska 321 15-4
10 Oregon State 290 10-3
13 Michigan 269 6-6
14 Northwestern 260 11-4
This poll is a joke plain and simple. For one Penn St. is going to be the team to beat hands down. But for sake of my thoughts I will just say what I believe because rankings mean nothing more or less. Iowa will be tough I figure Iowa, Okie St. Minnesota and Ohio St will be a hell of a battle for 2nd place, and with it being in Iowa is going to be fun as hell to go watch.
Northwestern is a team to watch out for as well they have a few strong seniors and have put together some pretty damn good recruiting classes over the last few years. Some very good top 100 talent. So I think they are under rated.
Cornell will be ok but unless they have some strong frosh coming in they will not be what they have been the last few years.
Missouri has some very good wrestlers but as a team they are not deep enough to worry about much at all.
Illinois also has some decent talent but I don't see them contending for anything better than top 8.
The nubholers also have a very good young team but I doubt they will compete to the levels of all the teams above
Well that is my thoughts take it for what it is worth
Sounds like we got another recruit. Sorensen
