I think as far as match ups go we can beat them in the dual, But they are going to need to light a severe fire under their asses to win the N.C
Here's the match-ups for Friday. I'll be there, should be a good one.
125 - #1 Matt McDonough vs Nico Megaludis #2
133 - #1 Tony Ramos vs Jordan Conaway
141 - #7 Mark Ballweg vs Bryan Pearsall
149 - Mike Kelly vs Andrew Alton #9
157 - #1 Derek St. John vs Dylan Alton #5
165 - #13 Nick Moore vs David Taylor #2
174 - #4 Mike Evans vs Matt Brown #7
184 - #17 Ethen Lofthouse vs Ed Ruth #1
197 - Nathan Burak vs Quentin Wright #3
285 - #10 Bobby Telford vs Jon Gingrich #16

I read a preview from a PSU guy and boy is he fking delusional. I hope we piss pound these mofos.
First dual meet predictions I've done I'll year:
125 - McD wins, dec. 3-0
133 - Ramos wins, lets call it a major. 7-0
141 - Ballweg wins, lets call it a dec. 10-0
149 - Kelly goes down, dec. 10-3
157 - DSJ wins, dec. 13-3
165 - Taylor wins, lets call it a dec. 13-6
174 - I don't know. Lets call it a toss up, and decide later
184 - Lofty goes down, major at least 13-10
197 - Burak goes down, lets call it a dec. 13-13
285 - Telford loses, 13-16
So I guess Iowa needs Evans to win, so I'll pick Evans. Thats a 16-16 tie, down to criteria. If it's total points (which I believe is one of the first tie-breakers) I'll take Iowa. Should be a good dual, although I would not be surprised if Iowa loses, and I wouldn't be surprised if Iowa wins.
Brands and some wrestlers on PSU
Dual Friday, February 1, 2013, 8:00 p.m, Carver-Hawkeye Arena
I think Telford will win. The premier match will by 174. Iowa can win IF they can avoid bonus points in losses.
One thing we got going for us is Alton is coming back from an injury and pooped out in his last match and got stuck, so I don't think he is going to roll Kelly, But lets face it Taylor will get bonus points and so will Ruth, so we need Ramos and Ballweg to step up and Evans to win, oh Iand I don't see Telford losing either but it is possible and Evans is a whole different wrestler at home. I can't wait should be a brawl
yep - i see telford winning easily
iowa wins 6 matches - and the meet 19-15
Wrestling owns the Olympics
disagree about Ruth getting bonus points! Lofty pins this chump and the place goes nuts!!!!
If Lofty does pin Ruth I think the fans might rush the mat and the meet might be cancelled. Ok ok, at least I would rush the mat and get arrested, and the meet would carry on as expected. Whatever.
I posted this in the percentage thread but thought I'd throw it up here too.
Also anybody who wants to go to the Penn St. dual tomorrow needs to get their ticket right now. As of 10AM-ish yesterday there were only 1700 tickets left. I'll be sitting in the general admission section, in the row directly above the rail with my fiance if anybody wants to sit with us there. Should be a good time.
FYI - Separate thread started for the PSU meet
Huge test for the Hawkeyes tonight. It gets underway at 8 PM on BTN.
Anyway - Iowa won 22 to "go back to never winning in iowa city Cale"
Sparty, don't you just love being wrong in those situations! I do every time I doubt the Hawks preemptively.
I kind of nailed this one LMAO Only I dont think Alton would have rolled Kelly I wish they would have wrestled him because he did get gassed
Got home in time to see the start of Evan's match. Helluva turn he made. Big win for him and the
Great win tonight, the loudest (probably) I've ever hear CHA was after Ramo's fall. Great way to start the dual.
Now I'm going to complain about some things, so feel free to skip this if you don't want to listen to me.
First of all, the music. Who is in charge of the music for these things? I haven't been to a bball game at CHA in several years, but they cannot have a worse selection then what they have chosen for the wrestling squad. I mean it's fine before the meet (and I was there an hour before it started) to play quieter, slower country songs, but once the announcer guy starts talking and the band starts playing, it's time to take the music up a notch. My goodness. It actually wasn't too bad in-between matches, but the music before Telfords match was and has been god AWFUL. They need something to pump the crowd up, not depress everybody into silence. My goodness, and it's been that way all year. I like country as much as the next guy, but it's not the way you get a crowd excited for a sporting event. It's not 15,000 people showing up to a funeral, it's 15,000 people showing up to watch Iowa BEAT Penn State, get them EXCITED ABOUT IT!
Now this next thing is a product of where I sit (kind of). We'll just get our seats and then sit in the general admission area (aka the student section) because those seats are great, and we sit behind a railing so I have something to hit and lean on during the matches. So were right in the middle of the students, and during Gambrall's match, when he's you know, not doing anything at all, I start yelling at the ref off of a bad caution call or something (and the choicest of words I said was "bull sh*t), and these people (students) in front of me tell me to still down, and "there are children here" and to "stop yelling". So I say "turn around, shut up, and watch the meet." Then the guys behind me are getting on Gambrall, because he's, you know, not doing ANYTHING, and this girl turns around and yells at them to be quiet, which of course they don't, so she she yells back again, "you need to be quiet" or something like that, which of course they don't. So then on the third time they yell, she literally gets up, steps over her seat and comes up to yell at these guys, saying "until you go out there and train everyday like they do then you shouldn't yell at all. We all came here to train on the hawks and blah blah blah." And they guys weren't giving her an inch, eventually just telling her to go away and sit back down. But honestly she's NEVER going to win that battle, and they all just went right back to yelling, which is what EVERYONE IN THE ARENA WAS DOING! My goodness it was annoying. It had to have been Gambrall's girlfriend or sister or something.
That's pretty much it for my complaints, just had to get it off my chest. I couldn't believe when the guy told me to sit down, so every time anybody else yelled anything I made sure to say, in a voice loud enough for him to hear me, to tell them all to be quiet too. I'd have never guessed that at an Iowa wrestling meet someone would think another fan was yelling too much. Clearly they haven't been to very many of these things.
sounds like a great time
Thanks for sharing, wish I had been there...sounds like an amazing experience.
A) the way Telford wrestled, do you think maybe he chose his own pre-match song? ...he certainly came out inspired
B) re the Gambrall match girl, she obviously had to either be related or somehow involved with him....next time please take out your cell phone and get some pics to share...
