Wrestling owns the Olympics

Tony Ramos post Championship match.
Tony Ramos talks to the media following his championship round defeat to Ohio State's Logan Stieber on March 23, 2013, at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.

Great showing by Iowa St and Northern Iowa as well
Gold medals aren't really made of gold. They're made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts.
Just now getting on here and I watched the Ramos replay about 10 times. At a minimum it was 2+2, I counted slow and still got to two. Honestly, I replayed it over and over and would slow it down and Ramos had Stieber flat briefly. It was a Fall imo. Tony got robbed.
It's dumbfounding, first why the official was so late in the count, and then how they couldn't make the proper determination on the review. There might be an ego issue here, as the official would have to admit he was wrong to overturn it. It makes you wonder if they are going to use a review process, if it should be an independent official making the call. Otherwise, it's probably senseless to even have it, because that one was about as obvious as it gets.
Nevertheless, Ramos shouldn't have been in that position to begin with. On the slide-by, he shot, then inexplicably paused, allowing Stieber to jump on him for the TD2. It was an odd scene, and uncharacteristic of Ramos. Those kind of mental lapses won't win you too many NCs.
I say get rid of replay completely.....the idea is to wrestle for 7 minutes minimum - 2/3 minute breaks in the middle of a period change the dynamics IMO - all the work that goes into the training and stamina that creates the guts and determination for the wrestler with the biggest heart to win - can be compromised by allowing the other guy to rest while his coach reviews. I don't like it. Just my opinion.
Congrats to DSJ and Ramos - great runs. Lofty also did well - great to see him wrestle the way that most folks think he can! Evans and Telford both were limited by injuries - obviously - and Burak performed very well - big steps forward from wrestle-offs. It'll be interesting to see what the conclusions are on causes of Matt M. performance after giving some time to digest/reflect. Great Hawk champion - tough way to end - but very proud of the Linn-Mar grad.
Hard to take a fourth place finish in duals and NCAAs. Although I know the rest of the wrestling world is happy about it.
Ok instead of quoting individually I am just going to answer kc, diehard and hookem,
K.C There is a picture I have that Montell Marion posted and it just verified what I thought, he was clearly pinned even when the ref was on the ground, Steiber was flush no question about it. So yes he got screwed
Diehard, yes Ramos had several screw ups that should not have happened and he knows it and admitted it, he still got screwed but he with out the 2 take downs on him it could have been a different match. And as far as the review no question an outside ref should be looking at it not the ref or refs in the match, that was as easy of a 2+2 as I have seen and with a good ref it was a fall.
Hookem, I don't mind the replays if for 1 like I said an outside ref is reviewing, 2 it has a time limit. 3 If the coaches want it.
And as far as McD there has been rumblings McD has been wrestling with a torn pec for awhile, but you will never hear him use it as an excuse. And honestly considering Telford and McD both cost us at minimum I would say 12 points a piece getting 4th place is honestly a blessing. We weren't going to compete for the N.C either way PSU had a lights out tourny as well as Okie St. They came in prepped and ready, we didn't even though Dsj, won and I could not be happier he had no bonus points, Ramos did his thing, Lofty was very impressive to me and Burak was as well. Moore just isn't as good as I thought. The rest of the guys injured or not (minus Telford) were not getting bonus points anyway. PSU was a bonus point machine and until we can do that we are not going to hang with them, Just glad Wright is gone and Taylor and Ruth only have a year left.
I think it's time........and you may want to start a new thread, since we can put this season (and its miserable ending) to rest.
Consider it done
I don't really have any round-up thoughts. I think I've pretty much said everything I've needed to say.
I don't think Ramos' got screwed on the fall, but it was 2+2 for sure.
DSJ had a great year.
Lofty did a great job coming back.
Pretty excited for next year.
Something I didn't know.
Apparently you can't review pins under the NCAA review rules. I read this on a different message board, and they said that they heard it during the broadcast last night during the Ramos review.
Although now that I think about it, I thought that they reviewed a fall earlier in the day on Friday, however I could be wrong.
Ramos had the pin, it was fast ut it was no faster than Storely over Perry on his defensive pin. And I didnt hear that on the broadcast and I watch it several times
Here is a link to the new rule:
What's not specified is what they mean by not reviewing a fall; whether a called fall, a non-called fall, or both. Apparently, everything else is fair game.
Is there any video out there of Brands after the 133 championship match? I'd heard he was saying some interesting things, just wondering if anybody had actully seen it.
bump... because I miss this thread...
