Great 2 slashes at qb. I know depth charts don't mean much but it would have been nice to see one qb there.
I'm shocked that McCaron (spelling?) isn't #2 for the slot position..
Looks like Law is going to have to fight for time again this year...
D. Ott cracking the starting position!! Awesome
I'm guessing this is still pretty fluid at a lot of positions.........perhaps least so on Offensive line though.
For instance, LTP is probably our #1 interior line guy, yet isn't playing this spring.
When LTP returns, does that move Cooper out to Defensive end?
Hmmmmmmm...........?? It's all good.
'Texan by birth, Hawkeye by the Grace of God'
Who the hell is Croston at tackle? And Sky, Cooper won't be d end I would almost bet the farm on it,I am sure it will just be a rotation which will be very nice having all those big boys fresh and tiring out the opposition.
Gold medals aren't really made of gold. They're made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts.
That's 12 positions on offense...I assume that means Davis plans to run mainly two TE sets and/or one TE with a FB/H-Back? Can that in any way be interpreted as a) confidence in his power running game or b) lack of confidence in his QB? Will he run any 3 WR spread on 3rd down? If so, who's that 3rd guy going to be? Cotton? Hillyer? Powell?
300# bulk in the middle...265# SSDE...you're a 245# rush end away from having a "SEC" DL. When I think of Iowa DLs, I always seem to think of Mitch King as an undersized 275# DT. With Davis and Johnson each 300#-plus, those days may be in the past. If Faith Ekakitie's athletic enough to play DE, what would he be like as a 6-3/287 DT?
You should be stout in the middle with three senior LBs but if the DL can't put pressure on opposing QBs, they could have a field day against your DBs. Somebody's got to bring the heat.
I'm looking forward to watching the replay on BTN.
I'd honestly be surprised if Iowa actually uses a fullback more than a few snaps per game once the season rolls around. I assume we'll see a decent amount of the fullbacks on Saturday, as it wouldn't make sense for the Hawkeyes to tip their hand too much heading into the fall, but when the games start to count, I'm not expecting the fullbacks to play much of a role in the offense. Weisman may line up at fullback from time to time, or one of the backup tight ends may line up there, but I don't think the players actually listed as fullbacks will play much on offense on Saturday afternoons.
I'm also expecting Iowa to have at least three receivers on the field a lot. That third receiver may be a running back that's split out (Damon Bullock, Jordan Canzeri, Jonathan Parker, Akrum Wadley), but I think that's a look that will be much more prevalent this fall than in the past.
Pressuring the quarterback is probably the biggest question mark in this program right now.
Cole Croston- yup, that's Dave Croston's son. I'm surprised he's on there already because he's a young (RS freshman) walk on from SC Heelan that came in at 230 lbs. I guess Doyle was good for him... and it helps that he has good genes.
Yeah, don't see Cooper moving outside. They will rotate him in regularly. Don't think the staff is that sold on Davis.
Iowabuckeyes, Faith played mainly DE in HS. And he played BB as well so he has some quickness. Clayborn played at 280 out there as well. (Ballard did too). I think technique is another factor besides speed that coaches look at for DE/DT. So, it varies. Yeah, why would Klug played inside and not outside when he was around 255?
Todd, how is laron Taylor progressing? We are going to need LB's during the next few years?
Thanks Thai, forgot about that and he came out of no where to be on the 2 deeps.
I am not Todd but I think he is going to be a very very good player for us.
Cole is from Sergeant Bluff-Lutton didn't go to Heelen. My son played on his team. Really nice kid.

No way to really know at this point, as the team keeps a pretty tight lid on those things. He's not currently in the two-deeps, but I think he's capable of getting to that point by fall, so we'll have to wait and see how it all plays out. I'll be sure to pass along whatever I'm hearing. But I definitely agree with you that this is a huge developmental year for the non-senior linebackers. Iowa will need at least 4-5 of them to be ready to play at a starter's level by 2014.
I'm surprised that Lile is listed as the third SS and not at least #2 at FS.
I agree, as I think he has a chance to be an elite free safety. It'll be interesting to see how that all unfolds in August as the season opener approaches.
OK........however, you can make book on the FACT that LTP will be on the field, when he is healthy.
He was easily our best interior lineman in 2012
I agree, I am just not sold on Davis up to this point I think Cooper has been better. I like LTP a lot and he is only going to get better.
I completely agree with you about Trinca-Pasat. He's got a chance to follow it up with an even better season in 2013.
And to think he almost quit football
True, that's crazy. That may be one of those stories Al Michaels is telling on Monday Night Football in a few years. I really like Trinca-Pasat's game, and I think Brant Gressel has a chance to be that same type of player.
