Guess he just proved he deserved the #1 ranking with this latest performance. He was 2/3 of Valleys scoring!
Maybe IC West will meet Valley in the state tournament next month!
ESPN better have Jok up to at least a 91 by the time of his final rating...(he may even be deserving of as high as a 94)....and a Top 15 player at his position. If not, it will be clear bias against the Iowa, and nothing more than them showing their true colors about favoring only "elite" programs that they suck ratings off of.
True.Neither will Mich, at least 3 of their players should declare for NBA by end of season. I like Hawk's chances next year though.
We shouldn't really cared about their "objective" evaluations anyway, he's going to be a Hawk. That's all that matters, haters just like to keep IA down, Fran will have IA final four dancing in the next three years or less.
I concur with the sentiment Lao....but Jok deserves a high rating, he's worked his butt off to get back to where he was before the knee issues, and they damn well better reward him.
I don't subscribe to the belief that there is a bias against Iowa commits in the world of recruit rankings. Everyone likes to point out the Iowa guys who get moved down, but fail to mention the Iowa guys that move up.
It's true Iowa isn't a sexy brand. Most B1G teams aren't but it's still the best basketball conference in the country. Given a choice between an under-rated 2-star who "overachieves" versus an overrated 4-star who underachieves, I think we'd all take the former over the latter. And coming off his knee injuries, Jok had a hill to climb. He's climbing it and well. He still doesn't have a lot of hop in his step. But if he can average 25 ppg and lead Valley far into the state playoffs, I'd hope his star rating would go up. It would also put him in a position to win Mr. Basketball.
According to quikstatsiowa.com, Valley's #2 in 4A scoring with 67.2 ppg and Jok, who's now averaging 25.3 thanks to last night's 41, is #1 in 4A by more than 4 ppg. Valley's got talent and height--six kids at least 6-5. Clint Boffeli, who's Conor's brother, is averaging about 12 ppg but after that no one averages more than 7 ppg. What Valley doesn't have is consistent PG play. Horner rotates a trio of solid but unspectacular 5-10 kids at the point; together, they're averaging 6.5 apg. Going far in tournaments often pivots on PG play because of their importance controlling tempo and Valley may struggle in that department. Jok may have to put the team on his back and carry it, like he did against Urbandale.
thanks for starting this thread. i like reading about iowa's only recruit in this class.
btw - my comment was my reaction to a thought about a previous coach's game planning - and we don't want that style ever again!!!!
Wrestling owns the Olympics
so tell us of the ones that went up?
Woodbury started out as the 42nd best player dropped to 51 then finished at 39th by ESPN the only reason he did stay outside the top 50 is because Roy of UNC offered him,
but i would like to know who the ones that moved up were
rudock was a 2 star before iowa offered, and then when Wisky copy catted iowa's offer he was bumped to a 3.
Did you talk to the ranking guys and did they tell you the only reason Woodbury moved up was the UNC offer? Otherwise I have no idea how you can say definitively that was the only reason he moved up. Recruits are constantly evaluated by recruiting services; sometimes they move up, sometimes they move down, but there isn't a concerted effort by the rankings people to diminish the rankings of Iowa players.
Fran is fast changing the opinion on Iowa BB Recruits, as with White being named a FR AA clearly made them look like fools, and even KF is making them look foolish by having so many OL drafted, and by players like Greenway, Sanders who were 1st teamers in their respective states only were graded a 2 *
Sanders for example was a 1st class 6A in Pennsylvainia, even Hyde this year was graded as a QB but looks to be a NFL pick as a DB
this years Ike Boetger was graded as a QB and nothing more but ended being named a All Stater as a DE.
this is my opinion but at 6'5 245 lbs and 4.6 40 listed speed and with him playing TE. he will make a very good DE
Definitely. Burke, Hardaway Jr., and maybe (probably) Robinson III will leave. I also think Zeller could leave IU after this season which would definitely change the outlook of the Big Ten.
"I was brought in here to change the culture. I'm going to coach with passion" - Fran McCaffery.
Agreed. I just think the players Iowa gets don't compare to the top players in the nation. Its pretty obvious when you look at the performance of the Iowa programs compared to the nations top programs. Probably going to get flamed for this, but I don't care. ESPN, Rivals, Scout, 247 do not have anything against Iowa and its recruits. That's just plain silly.
then explain to me why Scout down graded Ward from a 4* to a 3* and he played in the Army AA Game and was 4* on all the other sites.
Cooper was a 4* on all sites until PSU stopped recruiting him and he chose Iowa over MSU and Rivals dropped him to a 3*, Blythe was rated the 4th best OG by scout, and dropped him to the 23rd best OG. to many drop I owa recruits and thembeen doing it for years, I even remember Kampman being rate as a top 3 LB and some were comparing his to Katz of OSU or Vandenbosch of Nebraska as both were recruiting him hard, after he committed to Iowa when the Mag's came out in the fall he was no where to be found in anybodies top 100 or top 10 LB's. if you listen to the recruiting experts they even say Iowa stands no chance at a 5* kid,
now that Peirschbacher comited I am curious to see how long he remains at #4 OL by scout and just how low he ends up on the other sites.
there is more evidence out there of Iowa players being dropped.
White was a unrated 3* that ended up a FR AA, even this year the media ignores him because he plays for Iowa.
even Marble get no respect even from Iowa fans, FR stats, So staats and this years stats to date.
5.7 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 1.3 apg 25 mpg
11.5 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 3.6 apg 29.5 mpg 2nd leading scorer on the team
15.0 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 2.9 apg 30.8 mpg leading scorer, and yet not one word out of the media and he is scoring 1.6 ppg less than Zeller.
this kid is a full year younger than anybody in his year class.
one last note Marble shot a little over 54% from the stripe as a Fr and as a JR he averging a little over 80% from the stripe.
Since the recruiting services are constantly updating, EVERY school has commits drop and rise. There is no conspiracy to lower the ratings of Iowa players.
This is a basketball thread. Please limit the discussion to how the recruiting services rate players to basketball only.
Re: Aaron White, he is an enigma. You look at him--ghostly pale, skinny 6-8 ginger who can't run and can't jump and you think, no way this kid can play. Then he drops 12-15 on your team and it still doesn't make sense, like you refuse to believe what your own eyes just witnessed. I'm sure he drives opponents crazy and that's because what he lacks in looks and even talent, he makes up for in spades of fundamentals and desire. Just as you can't coach height, you can't coach heart. Those are both God-given gifts.
I believe his dad was/is a bball coach. That never hurts and he has a high bball IQ.
this fit the 3 knocks on IA players
1st; he was not rated a 5* out of HS
2nd; he is to white to be athletic or quick enough
3rd; this is the biggest knock he plays for Iowa, so he defenitately can't play the game at a high level
White was named the MVP of the Ohio/Kentucky All Star game by scoring 19 pts in 19 minutes of playing time.
if this kid would have been recruited by OSU he would have been a 4* minimum, and would be getting rave reviews for what he did as a FR for Iowa.
ESPN Rated him the 3rd best freshman in the BT and 15th best freshman overall, and yet because he plays for Iowa he gets no mention, this is typical for any Iowa player,
until Iowa starts finishing in the top 5 no Iowa player will receive much if any attention.
but then again I expect nothing less out of a buckeye fan in reguards to a Iowa player that the buckeye screwed the pooch by not recruiting him.

Come again? I'm not following your logic...not that I'm sure there's very much there in the first place.
