Jim Tressel

  • Recently Jim Tressel played in a charity basketball game in Youngstown that was organized by Maurice Clarett. Please comment...

  • I heard he posted up Bob Commings.

  • Are they both evil for life just because they've made mistakes in the past?

  • No.

Jim just lied to the B1G commish and the entire country at the young and dumb age of 58 while leaving his school/team in total disarray. No worries he was just trying to protect his players from "gangsters." Terrelle Pryor's mentor sure got the email tho.

Mo just committed 2 armed robberies and while out on bail lead police on a high speed chase with a loaded AK-47 in the vehicle. Im sure the people he robbed are well over the fear of walking at night by now.

Is Bernie Madoff evil for life just because he made mistakes in the past Todd? He committed fraud and lied, the same these two have combined to do.

The correct question to the comment is:

    Was Suge Knight there?

  • I'm not at all excusing what either one of them did, but what those two did is nowhere near what Madoff did. To me, the OP seemed to be implying that they shouldn't be giving back, or that there was something wrong with that, and that just doesn't make sense to me.

  • Must be nice to be perfect.

  • IDK.

Mo committed 2 robberies at gun point. You ever been robbed at gun point? Yeah, me neither but I would imagine it is terrible. Terrible enough that alot of people carry concealed weapons so it doesnt happen to them.

I would much rather get robbed online by a financial adviser than in person at gun point by an NFL football player. Whether its 10% of my savings or 100%, I'll take the online version.

I feel more sorry for Clarrett's victims. They were just walking down the street and got a gun pulled on them. Bernie Madoff's victims were investing with a guy that was posting earnings well above industry averages. Even with a middle man they didnt research where their money was well enough.

Mo did like 7 years and Madoff got sentenced to around a kajillion so the law agrees with you tho.

  • Productive comment.

I have never committed a robbery of any sort and have never lied to my boss, company, company oversight, and got fired tho. Both guys are well below me ethically imHo.

  • It wasn't meant to be productive. It was purposely meant to be sarcastic. I'm sorry you didn't get that.

You've never fudged an expense report? Never took home a ream of paper for your home printer? Never snagged a bottle of Whiteout or a box of paper clicks or a roll of scotch tape? Never used the company's copier for personal use? Never called in sick so you could go to a baseball game? Never surfed the Internet or posted on VOTH or played Solitaire on your PC when they were paying you to do your job? Never said you had a dentist's appointment so you could interview with another company?

For you, the commandments "Thou shalt not lie" and "Thou shat not steal" seem to have no grey area. You seem to be interpreting them literally--either black or white. Because when you put Tressel and Clarett on the same scale as Bernie Madoff, what you're essentially saying is anyone who's ever lied or stolen anything, even if it's as trivial as a paper click, is equally as guilty as someone who's stolen billions. Conversely, I believe in degrees of guilt. I also believe in redemption.

By going 4-8 and being paid $1 million per W, a lot of people might say Kirk Ferentz is stealing. But don't you, as a Hawkeye fan, want to have faith he'll do better? That if he's given a chance, he'll be able to redeem himself and prove he's the great coach he once was and that you want him to be again? So why aren't Tressel and Clarett and even Madoff afforded the same opportunity as human beings?

Like I said, it must be nice to be perfect. Tell me: is it hard living in a house made completely out of windows?

So your saying your not trying to add meaningful conversation to this discussion? One should just quit reading the rest of this dribble but I'll break it down

So little "white" lies are being compared to JT's disgracing a BCS game by knowingly lying and covering up a scandal? Makes sense stealing the company's whiteout is equally bad as ruining a 30 million dollar Sugar Bowl.

For you, the commandments "Thou shalt not lie" and "Thou shat not steal" seem to have no grey area. You seem to be interpreting them literally--either black or white. I'm sure you'll forgive fellow Ohioans Jeffery Dahmer & Charles Manson since you Ohioians are so blinded by the fact of your own kind, also religion isn't allowed on these boards so let's keep the Ten Commandments out of here. Seriously though I'm sure JT is a respectable man that you would hire for your accounting firm after the fact. I bet if you had a daughter she could date ole Moe cause he's a change man. Guys are scum but keep standing up for them since they are from Ohio

Flawed arguement is flawed. Did KF knowingly cover up a scandal or rob somebody at gunpoint? No, maybe come back when something like that does happen and ask us what we think when KF is doing a charity event. Til then have fun with your fallacy of comparing KF's bad year to JT's scandal year

Like I said, it must be nice to be perfect. Tell me: is it hard living in a house made completely out of windows?

Nobody can live in a house without windows in the state of Iowa, it wouldnt be up to fire codes.

  • Oh, give it a rest. Comparing Jeffrey Dahmer to Maurice Clarett or Jim Tressel is ludicrous. Seriously? Talk about drivel (not dribble).

You obviously missed my point, which isn't surprising because you decided to turn this into some kind of righteously indignant indictment of all things wrong with Ohio by dredging up censored no one cares about except someone with a huge inferiority complex and a massive chip on his shoulder. Get over it already.

KCSuperStar claimed he "never lied to my boss, company, company oversight" and I challenged him by using mundane, everyday examples of how employees regularly steal and lie. He made the statement, not me. And people have been terminated for doing those things. I wasn't comparing what Tressel or Clarett did to those kinds of things. KCSuperStar effectively was by putting their transgressions in the same category as what Madoff did. In fact, he claims that what Clarett did was worse than what Madoff did. What Clarett did was stupid but the only life he may have ruined was his own. Madoff, meanwhile, stole billions, took the life savings of thousands of people who trusted him, ruined many of their lives. Yet it was all their fault because they didn't do their research? Seriously?

The 10 Commandments are a generally accepted code of morality. You don't have to be religious to try to live your life by them. I'm not religious but I try to live by them. That doesn't mean I haven't broken them. I am human and to be human is to forgive. I don't claim what Tressel or Clarett did was wrong. As a Buckeye fan, I am not proud of what they did. But I have chosen to forgive them.

You can live in a house made of glass as long as it meets fire codes.

Jeffrey Dahmer was a mass murderer. He may have grown up in Ohio but he was conceived and born in Wisconsin. Only his first murder was committed in Ohio. His second murder occurred nine years later, by which time he was living back in Wisconsin.

Charles Manson was born in Ohio because his mother was a teenage runaway from Ashland, Kentucky who gave birth to him there but from at least the age of 5, he was raised by an aunt and uncle in West Virginia. Ohioans don't claim him the way Iowans claim John Wayne, who was born in Winterset but moved away when he was 3 years old. Yeah, Iowa's holier than morality had a lot to do with the Duke's image, a man whose biographers have revealed as a mean drunk, a womanizer and a father who beat his children.

But I leave you with this quote from the Duke: "Each of us is a mixture of some good and some not so good qualities. In considering one's fellow man it's important to remember the good things ... We should refrain from making judgments just because a fella happens to be a dirty, rotten SOB."

P.S. On the positive side of your misplaced righteous indignation, how'd you do the boldfacing?

  • I have never stolen a single thing from my employer. It just doesnt make any sense to me.

I work at a motorcycle dealer.

I have lied to my boss (AD). If I got caught in that lie I would confess if the company got involved (University). If the manufacturer of our franchise (B1G Commish) got invloved I would certainly confess to the lie.

Jim Tressel lied the whole time. He didnt fess up until he was backed into a corner. He lacks morals and always will in my mind. As a buckeye fan I would think you would still be upset with JT, especially after costing you a chance at a NC last year.

But then again JT was just trying to protect his players from "gangsters and drug dealers". LAUGHABLE!

  • This thread is stupid. What was the purpose of it if not to ridicule Tressel and Clarett? I'm assuming iowabuck knew what he was doing walking into the lion's den on this one. Maybe not. Not my problem but it was a lose/lose for anyone who didn't jump on the OP's potshot bandwagon.

Otherwise, I find it LAUGHABLE that someone would waste everyone's time by starting a worthless thread like this, which has no intrinsic value or productive purpose whatsoever except to provide a forum for blatantly bashing an opponent and then accuse another poster of failing to advance the discussion in a "positive" manner because he chose to comment in a way that the OP would have preferred. What is this? Soviet Russia where everyone has to toe the party line? The thread was negative from the moment KC posted his OP.

This whole thread is 5 minutes of my life I can't get back. KC, where can I send you the bill for wasting my time?

    Oh, and Todd: lock

  • I think it's a good thread topic, Sparty.

    Just curious though...'charity' for what?
To raise money for OSU FB players to get Tats?
Or, perhaps for Burger King money, so you don't have to try to rob stores?
Some OSU fans would still eat the peanuts out of either of these guys p**p.
So, it's kind of lame, to me, in that regard.

    Just wonderin........

And hey; if it's for a worthy cause, like building strong families, then I'm all for it.
But, I'd sure the heck do some due diligence and auditing, considering these 2 are involved.

  • Clarett organized a charity basketball game for Victory Christian's Youth Center and he needed a celebrity coach so he asked Tressel. "He's on a mission to make a difference in the life of kids or any life he can touch," Tressel said. "I think he always had that passion. He had a detour there and from that he learned some great lessons. I always knew he had it in his heart to help people."

Tressel more than coached; he played (although not well--shot 0-2). So did Trent Richardson of the Browns, Boom Herron of the Bengals, Matt Overton of the Colts and other local celebrities. 1,800 people watched the game. It was filmed by ESPN Films for its upcoming “30 for 30” documentary on Clarett’s life.

“It shows the young kids that it’s never too late to turn your life back around like Maurice did,” Herron said. “I’m just really proud of him that he brought it back to the area, so now the kids out here could see that it’s never too late.”

How are Pierre Pierce, Cedric Everson and Abe Satterfield doing getting their lives together these days, KC? Or did you conveniently forget three of Iowa's biggest "sinners" while ridiculing OSU's?

  • fuisu

1.) Who is KC? You've mention him twice, is it KC & Jojo or KC & the sunshine gang

2.) Are Cedric Everson, Pierre Peirce or Abe Satterfeild doing a charity event? And would any of us blindly pull the 'they changed & cleaned up' card if they did. PS Albert Dukes while at tOSU molested a 12 year old girl and traveled with the team all season so pull all the skeletons out of our closet but keep your Jerry Sandusky cousin love interest to your own board

3.) I'm surprise such a "hawk" fan would stand up for OSUanything considering Iowa fans usually hate OSUeverthing but after this qouted statement it proved to be who your "real" team was. Just a heads up you die hard Iowa fan you, Weisman isn't a senior http://iowa.247sports.com/Board/143/BTN-predictions-two-ESPN-articles-on-Iowa-football-18359819

  • You hate Ohio but you sure don't mind recruiting Ohio's athletes to play for Iowa. Where would Hawkeye athletics be without Aaron White, Greg Stokes, DJK, Micha Hyde, Ricky Stanzi and dozens, maybe hundreds of others? Maybe you should brush up on your own history before you bite the hand that feeds your program.

What's the relevancy of whether Weisman's a senior? That's the best comeback you've got? Dusting off an innocent mistake in a week-old post? Been stuck in your craw so bad you can't let it go? As if it in invalidates anything I know about football or have brought to this board? Try to stay on topic. Or are you "dribbling" too much?

Since you aren't too sharp I'll spell it out for you, I don't hate Ohio I h-a-t-e O-h-i-o S-t-a-t-e U-n-i-v-e-r-s-i-t-y and everthing those scum bags stand for. Jim Tressel is a disgrace to the B1G and retired with full benefits (period).

He is pure trash and anybody that supports him is pure trash as well. As much as I would love to not listen to your loser drivel on redemption & change I'll stick that peice of crap next to the worthless POS's to the likes of Woody Hayes (who punched a opposing player in his throat) or Art Schlichter.

But yeah go ahead pull the whole 'those blah blah blah can cast the first stone' BS with the Moe Clarret stuff cause i'll throw the first fifteen stones. Guy had an AK47 while robbing people at gun point. I'm sure ole JT didn't personally sign for that ratards grades to stay eligible like he lied and covered up for the tat5.

What's wrong with this board? How do ISU lovers and OSU lovers get so far in here with upvotes? Go root for Nebraska if you support this CRAP. Till than here's a link to your schools site cause I'm pretty sure your lost: http://ohiostate.247sports.com/
