Rankings by 247 Composite:
The first snip is only schools with 16 committments at the moment....(Marshall, really???)
The second snip is where Iowa recruiting sits overall in the FBS universe at the moment...not a pretty picture
Here's to hopefully striking gold over the next two weeks...cuz finishing outside the Top 50, well below the likes of Oregon State, Indiana and Northwestern (even after a 4-8 season) would be inexcusable imo.

Hmmmm, this site is having issues....
Let's try adding the snips again....
-first is the "16 commit teams" only
-second is the "overall" rankings showing teams ahead of Iowa
Keeping my chin up for 2 weeks we are still in on some good kids, other wise I agree
I think there's still potential to finish strong, so these last 11 days are extremely important. Also, while it wouldn't make a major difference in Iowa's overall ranking, I do think our network has Sean Welsh vastly underrated.
Even if Iowa lands all the top targets remaining on their board like Spearman, Lemelle, etc., let's be honest here. This is one of the weakest rectuiting classes in the last 10 years. Recruiting websites give out 3 stars like candy. This class didn't even fill it's needs at one of Iowa's greatest weaknesses - DE.
Let's hope this is a class full of hidden gems and players that can contribute early but I'm concerned to say the least.
Exactly lumu....and I realize all these kids have talent or they wouldn't be getting FBS offers, but to keep putting our collective heads-in-the-sand and thinking we're getting nothing but "hidden gems" is ridiculous.
There's a reason most of them are ranked as they are, and as you said, most sites give out 3-stars like candy. It's also an indictment against our beloved Hawkeye program in that if we were seen as a Top 25 program, at least a couple of our commits (Welsh for example) would have been bumped to 4-star status just based on having Iowa recruiting them. I know this fact hurts, but it's reality. There's absolutely NO WAY a team like Marshall should be out recruiting us.
Oh, and to the individual who apparently doesn't appreciate posting the rankings that clearly shows exactly where Iowa sits in the current pecking order of recruiting....

I don't follow the recruiting stuff very carefully. I hear a lot of opinions about the star system and I guess I believe statistically, they have some merit. However, when I look at an individual recruit, I am much more interested, and ultimately impressed by who has offered them a scholarship. Is there a list of Iowa's recruits somewhere that I could see who else had offered them scholarships, or at least had significant interest? Thanks!
Just go here and click on each recruit's profile, then scroll down to view all the schools known to have offered them...(see "offer" column)...
I hit you with some upvotes to offset your "1 star stalker" must have followed you from tos . Ok Herk we have been posting on the same boards for a few years (not sure you remember me from HI of not) but I am usually pretty optimistic with our classes as you know. And while I think Daniels is going to be very good along with well along with Goebel,Welsh,Wisenieski, Gressel, Warfield,Rucker etc. the total lack of landing our needs is what has me worried and the overall quality of this class vanished when we lost Kenney, Hill, Young.
I'm with ya on how many of those recruits you mentioned will pan out as solid, if not very good players for us down the road. You nailed it 100% on us not filling our position(s) of need, and losing the players that could have filled them. Now, the variables behind losing those kids are unique, and I understand that, but with the potential for early playing time (particularly in Kenney's situation) it just hurts that he doesn't appear to be interested in switching back to Iowa now that his dad is no longer going to be on IU's staff.
Also, and here's where many on here feel if we were just more aggressive, I'm sure that we could have at least gotten some of the higher rated kids to come in for a visit. It hurts knowing that our staff (per KF's directives apparently) won't 'waste their time' actually pursuing kids that they feel won't view us as "sexy" enough to commit to anyway. By "pursuing" I don't just mean throwing out an offer to them, but going full-bore, guns-a-blazing, contacting them every chance they get and making them feel our love 24x7 type of pursuit. Until we get that mentality, I don't think we'll ever be much of a real 'player' in the recruiting world....not consistent Top 15-25 'player', but just consistent Top 26-35 'player'.
I would be happy to be top 20 to 35 every year because I know Kirk can develop kids,we just need to get kids that are already well developed or partially developed so they dont need to b a full project and can play after a year not after2 to 3 years of development its the only way we can be good ( not great) but an win team every year or more than not at least
You make a great point here about how much development some of Iowa's commits may need in any given year. If it's only a year or two, then the negative impact of a starter getting hurt, getting in trouble, leaving the program, etc isn't quite as bad, because there might be two or three guys ready to step right in. But when a program has too many developmental guys that need an extra year or two before they're ready, that's when you can see a huge drop off. I think that really, really hurt Iowa at offensive tackle in 2012, and at defensive end the past two seasons. The Hawkeyes needed someone to be ready, but no one was, at least to the extent to play at a championship level.
Thats what I meant but you word it so much better than I do
We basically said the same thing. It was your point, and I was just following up.
The ranking system isnt perfect. Either is the star system, but its all we have. Like stated above, I look at who else has offered to rank recruits. Its not a pretty picture. For every Bob Sanders there are 1000 Jack Swansons. Fact is that Iowa's staff doesnt recruit well. I know that this was suppose to have been addressed 2 years ago by moving Eric Johnson into a full time recruiting role. This year has proved that there are still issues with Iowa's strategy.
The proof is in the pudding. We finished the season 4-8 and ranked in the 50's recruiting.
Thanks, Herk...I spent quite a bit of time going over the recruits this afternoon. Appreciate it.
Here's the neighborhood we reside heading into signing day....
Compared to where we were after Delano switched and Young messing up I am happier than I was. Still over all I am disappointed but they made a great effort back. I would be curious to see where we would be sitting had Kenney and Hill not swapped and Young didnt throw it away.
Yeah, it's just not a good feeling when you have Marshall, South Florida and Washington State ranked ahead of you....but at least we finally overtook lil brother.
I think we jumped 5 spots just by landing Spearman a 3* recruit, Imagine if you factor 3 4* in there. I really do think we have quality kids in this class and a lot of them. But really to me after the top 25 the difference between 50 and 30 is a matter of a kid or 2. I wish we could have held the whole class together but hey at least we got like 50 walk ons to sort through
Ha...yeah, at least the walk ons we're picking up in this class are top notch.
For me, I see recruiting class rank breaking down like this...
1 - 12 = elite
13-30 = great/very good
31-45 = good/solid
46-60 = underwhelming
60+ = non-competitive
Here's the Rivals neighborhood we reside in at the end of signing day 2013...good to see we climbed ahead of some of our close rivals...
Didnt think losing Bart would hurt Wisky so bad
Not really sure why they dropped so much the past week or so....did they have a decommit or something?
