Kinda surprised as an alum that Prairie beat ICWest by 21 tonight. Personally thought that both Morgan and Alexander made the right decision to play basketball. Neither played well tonight.

By 21? Wow, weren't they projected as 2nd in the state in 4A behind Ankeny or something?

Sine Missione -- Never be a spectator for unfairness or stupidity, argue for arguments sake; the grave will give plenty of time for silence.
I think they are/were #3. Either Xavier or West was #2 behind Ankeny. But Prairie was beat by 30 the first time they met, so it was very surprising.
PV is number 3
My alma mater lost to Mediapolis last night. Their QB, Jesse Ertz, is 6'4" and 190 lbs. and has committed to play at Kansas State.
I'm glad to see Ankeny marching thus far. I think this team has the whole "destiny" thing in the back of their minds, since it's the last year as a single-school district and is likely Coach Pezzetti's final season before retirement.
He's a beast too!
Why doesn't the IHSAA force Valley to split?
It's my understanding that WDM Valley is far larger than any high school in the state, giving them a big advantage in terms of sports. In other states, high schools have been forced to field two teams in situations like this.
For example, my old high school (Ft. Dodge) graduates about 250-275 each year, and it is my understanding that Valley is graduating 700-800 each year. Both are in the top classification for football and basketball.
My comment was more just to say that the IHSAA shouldn't have any say in what schools/school districts do with their student populations. Sure fans can gripe about it but that's what makes the tournament and all sports fun.
So whos going to win the 4a title? We've got Valley playing Ankeny, and Dowling playing SE Polk on the west side. Pleasant Valley and Cedar Falls, and Xavier and Prairie on the east. I had Xavier winning the whole thing at the beginning, so I'm not straying from that now.

I think it'll be a game between Ankeny and Xavier. I haven't seen either play so far, but I'll be at the Prairie @ Xavier game tonight.
Why not drop all classifications then, and have one class in football? Would it make sense for Emmetsburg to take on Valley in football and basketball?
I'd like to see an East side team win it, except Xavier. Man I hate them.
Ankeny vs. SEP
CR Xavier vs. Cedar Falls
Xavier is pretty good. Their field has a terrible slope to it, Where the middle of the field is much higher than both sidelines. Also, their away section is the size of an 8 man one. Terribly small. 500 tickets were sold for a 200 person section.
They just run you down all game. Big, tough, running game that eventually eats the clock and tires the defense. Plus, their defense is very good.
I want to give a shout out to the Grinnell Tigers for heading back to the Dome after their win over South Tama last night. It is my wife's Alma Mater and her entire family is from there as well as a few of my best friends.
Cheering hard for the CF Tigers!! Been a CF resident for 40+ yrs - great place to raise my girls!!
Xavier's field is the worst. The crown on the field is so high you can't see the other team's feet on their sideline. Their away section is also the smallest of a 4A school I've ever seen. I was thinking about going to the game last night but didn't just because I knew I wouldn't be able to find room on the Prairie side.
Plenty of the prairie fans went over and took over a Xavier section. The fences were full around the entire field. And that field is terrible. It really changes the passing game.
It's like trying to climb a hill on every play.
Does Ferentz offer Eli Dunne? 6-5/210 coach's son. 186 of 288 for 2,857 yards, 26 TDs, 3 INTs for a 12-0 team.
Probably not. He probably doesn't even realize Vandeberg graduates this year. All joking aside, I have no idea.
I could see Iowa offering him, especially if they are looking at 2 QBs in 2014. One thing that could play into Iowa's favor is that they may be able to slow play him. I've heard that he's a life-long Hawkeye fan, so that's a benefit. Also, he's a top-notch baseball player, which means that he won't be able to do many summer football camps, since Iowa HS baseball is a summer sport.
