I heard this earlier today, and figured I'd pass it along. Would you take a guaranteed national title for Iowa in 2013 if the catch was 15 years of struggles (we'll say 7 or less wins per season)? You can apply this to football or basketball. For basketball, the catch would be 15 years without an NCAA Tournament appearance.
Not sure. Feel free to shoot an email to firstname.lastname@example.org, and they'll be able to handle it for you.
Big Brother is watching you. Maybe he is a VOTH fan also!
For football, I'd take a National Championship, even if it meant 15 years of no more than 7 wins.
No for BB though........not just 7 wins........that would be terrible.
'Texan by birth, Hawkeye by the Grace of God'
Nope, but I'll sure take a national championship.
Sine Missione -- Never be a spectator for unfairness or stupidity, argue for arguments sake; the grave will give plenty of time for silence.
For basketball, it would be no NCAA Tournament appearances for 15 years, so no specified win total.
OK........I'll go for it.
Yes, give us the National Championship oh mighty one of NC2A BBALL, wherever thou may be.
I'll take the 15 years in each sport finishing as national champion RUNNER-UP. Screw the national championship carrot hanging from your scenario. I have gone through the 20 years of losing football seasons. Kind of still fun, but not THAT much fun!! Kind of like being a Cubs fan.
I'd absolutely take a National Title if it meant no more than 7 wins for 15 years in football or no NCAA tourney in bball. However, it would never happen because if you were to win a NC, the recruits would come to help you out. I'd take it though for sure.
Isn't that what Auburn did?
It's more or less what SMU did.
I want to see a Hawkeye N.C in football before I die and that is 100% never going to change so I would take an N.C and 7 or less wins every year, of course we have been too far off of that as of late anyway. If it was 5 or less wins every year maybe even 6 or less I don't know if the ticker could take it
Gold medals aren't really made of gold. They're made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts.
The one thing to keep in mind is that, in the subsequent 15 years, you would enter each season knowing that Iowa will win at most seven games in football, or not make the NCAA Tournament in basketball. So while the losses might be disappointing, it might take a lot of the drama and heartbreak out of it.
True, I still want the N.C in football, only thing is though (I know it is hypothetical) is if you won an N.C it would do nothing but help your team.
Most likely, yes. But sometimes you'll see the bottom just fall out on a program, similar to what has happened with Auburn since winning it all in 2010. Maybe the season immediately following the national title is filled with injuries and flukish, heart-breaking losses, and then things just spiral downhill from there.
Or your highest paid athlete goes to the Nfl , and it will just be a burp for them it won't last 15 years
I would 'cause when you consider my age I am looking for short term results!
