Yeah, admittedly, I am kind of "old school". Too much "Hollywood" for me in a team sport, unless everyone is wearing the same colored shoes. Don't need everyone's focus or spotlight on you, right? OK, I will go along with all the tattooes that almost every kid thinks they need now (except my high school daughter). How much do those things cost anyway, BTW? As soon as your neon shoes showed up on the screen, I screamed "Lose the shoes!". After a lousy first four minutes, I was hoping Fran would tell you the same. Also hoped he would tell you to do so at halftime, or maybe you would decide on your own to do so.
If they were worn as a special good luck gift from someone (not DJK, I hope!), that did not work out too well, did it? If it was to make you stand out among the rest of the team, they certainly did- in a bad way. Nowhere near your normal game, and you regressed to the out-of-control mode often.
Dev, I love your play and how you seemed to pull the rest of the team through the NIT, but when you put on those shoes, it seemed liked you were pulling away from the team, putting yourself before them.
Call me crazy if you want. Everyone I know wore their appropriate Hawkeye gear to watch the game on TV last night, but no one showed up in shoes like that except you. Bad choice.
Lose the shoes (or just wear them to the beach this summer), but I hope I do not see them on the court again next season.
Is this a serious post?
I might be wrong as I deleted the game from my DVR and can't check, but I could swear there were more players in green shoes! No? Mike Gesell? I must admit, his did catch my eye!
I didn't have a problem with his shoes, but cringed when he over dribbled, slipped, and turned the ball over dribbling it off his own feet or knees! He really played poorly last night trying to do too much!
Golden; I talked to several folks around eastern Iowa, the day after the Baylor loss.
Several people said 'when I saw those Marble's new green shoes, I knew we were done'. These were completely
Really, really question the 'breaking out' of new shoes in a championship game. And it certainly Did NOT work for Dev.
Played his worst game in probably 2 months.
'Texan by birth, Hawkeye by the Grace of God'
I'm fairly certain his shoes didn't affect his play. Same with his twittering.
Shoes didn't change how he plays - but perhaps the pressure of wearin them was a bit too much for him? Also - his shoes versus the rest of his teammate's footwear - didnt scream out TEAM to me.
The cause and effect is probably a subject of debate, huh?
Why so dismissive?
I agree with the OP...........and several other Hawkeye fans I spoke with, after Devyn's
bad game on Thursday agree, as well.
I just don't see how wearing different shoes and being on Twitter, things a lot of players do, cause a player to perform poorly. Marble undoubtedly had a bad game which was due in part to trying to press too much and in part to Baylor's relentless ball pressure. Both of those things have nothing to do with what shoes he was wearing.
All of that said, those were some damn ugly shoes.
Just trying to bring attention to himself. I can't think of any other reason a player would wear bright shoes like that while the rest of the teammates dress normally.
Everyone is acting like this was the first game he has worn a different pair of shoes. He literally did it every single game. I follow the guy on Twitter and he talks about shoes and has a vast collection of shoes. Thinking this was the reasoning for his bad game, and claiming that he is a selfish player because of it, are both idiotic ideas. Marble is the leader of our team, he has one bad game then everyone freaks out. It happens get over it. I'm sure nothing would have been made of his shoes if we hadn't had lost.
What U2 hawk said.......
Maybe he just likes those shoes.
I guess it's no different than a running back or receiver wearing gold shoes (or whatever some standout colors have been in the past).
I would prefer Marble to wear the same shoes he had been wearing when he was scoring in the 20s. Lol
Yeah, kind of like not washing your jersey or socks or not shaving when you are on a win streak.
I'm not a huge Gino Auriemma, of UConn backer, however he is on his way to his
8th NCAA Tourney championship.
Yesterday, he was interviewed by ESPN, prior to their pounding Notre Dame in the Semi-Final.
He is also 'Old school' and DOES NOT allow Twitter for his players during the season.
He also requires a certain dress code, because he wants them to 'act like Champions'.
And I'd let up a bit, when the Iowa Hawkeyes have won 7 titles.
Hmmmmmmmmm...............something to ruminate upon.........
