I have had the chance to see a lot of different stadium entries by college football teams - but feel that the Iowa Football Team's entry into Kinnick is one of the best! From AC/DC and the walk thru the tunnel, to Kinnick's Heisman acceptance speech, and even the video running over the opposing team's mascot all help build to the Hawks taking the field. The sequence always gets the fans pumped and seems to get the team pumped, as well.
The one part of the process that lacks the proper excitement, IMHO, is Herky's entrance. I'm still thinking someone is going to trip and Herky will be rolling around on the 30 yard line...but my question is - how could Herky's entrance be better? Or maybe it's ok with everyone - as it is? Either way...here's what I'd like to see:
I would like to see him zip-line over the student section landing at the 50 and starting the chant - "Let's Go Hawks"...or the I-O-W-A chant....What do you all think?
I personally love it n would not change a thing, gets me pumped every time
Iowa's is one of the best .. I just think of boomer sooner or the Fla.State or USC entrance of the mascot and I'd like to see them make Herky's entrance even better. Even Oregon's Harley entrance of the duck...although I have to admit that I don't quite get the connection...is pretty cool!
How about Herky riding into the stadium on a jetpack, ala James Bond?
That is a great, great suggestion, Sparty.
And Iowa engineering school could certainly accept that challenge to show
'lil brother' what enjanneerin is all about.
'Texan by birth, Hawkeye by the Grace of God'
At the home opener in 2011 (Tenn Tech), we witnessed the AC/DC walk through the tunnel twice!
Once before kickoff and again after the 90-minute weather delay late in the 3rd quarter. It was awesome. After the delay, barely 10,000 were in the stands and of course you could "pick" your seats.
Was with BBR and Schnebby that day. Who else was there?
That was a crazy day! I was nice and dry up in the press box. Nothing but respect for the few and proud that stuck around.
We were drenched. I took everything out of my wallet and the bills in my pocket and layed them out to dry when we got back to the hotel. And could not find a place in downtown IC on a Sat night to buy flip-flops. Went to Pagliai's and the Deadwood with very wet feet that night.
I sat in the press box once -- back in 1999, KF's first year, and we lost to Illinois.
Was there in the student section. Not my favorite game to watch but stayed until the end.
Sine Missione -- Never be a spectator for unfairness or stupidity, argue for arguments sake; the grave will give plenty of time for silence.
Hope you moved to the 50-yard line like we did.
Nope stayed in the student section, south endzone. In retrospect I should've moved there but didn't for some reason.
I can only imagine how drenched you guys must have been - it was absolutely pouring and just wouldn't stop.
My son and I were about the last out of the stadium for the rain delay....by that point, we were soaked to the skin anyway! Unfortunately - that was the game McCall was injured in....and it was all downhill for him from then on. I did catch a couple of SIU games on radio this fall...and heard his name called - SIU has been the on the receiving end of Hampton and McCall over the past few years...Iowa is quite a RB pipeline for them!
